I just got my 338 its a savage 110fcp and so far the only ammo I can find around here is hsm. So the question is how is this ammo and yes I do plan on reloading once I get my dies and brass. Pluss I just like to keep a few boxes of factory ammo around for my guns.

Re: hsm ammo for 338

When I first got my .338 LM, I bought the HSM with the 300 grain Berger hybrid bullet....It worked pretty fair out to 1000 yards. The ammo is fairly expensive, and I started reloading...I ladder tested a lot of different loads and found one that suited my rifle and I. I do notice that the HSM brass is a little soft and probably will go through 3 to 4 reloads. The Lapua brass is probably the best hands down, and can get at least double the loads as you could get with the HSM....Its ok to have fun with, but I would recommend you start reloading...The reloads are better than factory ammo and cost less than 2 bucks a shot if you provide the brass. The Lapua brass is about $2.70 apiece, but worth every penny. If you want a load recipe let me know, as I shoot a Savage too, and am familiar with what mine likes and where you should start...With my ammo and combo, I have hit targets to 1500 yards and, I plan to put some 2000 yard shots on you tube sometime. Good luck, and have fun....I would buy the reloading components first since ammo is so much money, then you will be far ahead of the game.

Dear Yankone, Do you have any load data using HSM's 230gr. T-50 .338 bullet or does anyone else have any reload data on this bullet if so please contact me. I have a 100 of there bullets and bought a box of there loaded 230gr. I sited in using the scenar 250gr. which has the same BC as the 230gr. T-50 then went to the 230gr. bullets out at 1500yds. after 1st shot dope adjustment I went 5 for 5 on a 16" square steel plate using the factory loads from HSM with the 230gr. T-50 bullet these are exiting my Sako trg-42 at 3200fps while the 250gr. scenars are exiting at 2950fps at 2400ft elevation and 85 degree's. Contact info. ( [email protected] )
