Looking for first hand user feedback on the Triple Aught Design (TAD) Ranger Hoodie or recommendations for a similar product by TAD or another manufacturer.

Thx

Nick

Re: Any opinions on the TAD Ranger Hoodie?

Nice hoody but maybe not worth the price tag if you plan on wearing it while shooting. I've worn the elbows out on mine fairly quick with range (not match) use.

Re: Any opinions on the TAD Ranger Hoodie?

Mine is so warm, I can't wear it anytime except for the late fall and winter.

Re: Any opinions on the TAD Ranger Hoodie?

I have the Recon, or now known as the LT. I find it very versatile and wouldn't give it up for anything. I am now contemplating the Ranger myself, for those extra damp and chilly N.W. days.

Re: Any opinions on the TAD Ranger Hoodie?

Fleece is a Pacific Northwest staple.

I have the Ranger hoodie, the Recon (a thinner weight fleece), and the Shagmaster (a super lofty/floofy fleece like the Mountain Hardwear Monkey Man). I like the tighter fit that TAD uses which is nice for backpacking because there is no excessive fabric to get bunched up, but any high quality outerwear will offer that. The higher pockets are awkward for normal use because you feel like you're fishing for nipples when you fetch something, but it's also nice when you've got a pack on as the waist strap won't block the high pockets. There are also zip pockets everywhere for packrats.

I like the hood design as it lays flat and cradles the back of the neck when the zipper is all the way up, instead of bouncing around on your shoulders like a sack of fabric. The shagmaster is an exception as the hoodie isn't structured like the fleece, softshell, or hardshell hoodies. However, the shagmaster is really a layer piece as it doesn't block wind.

The prices aren't really that different from high quality outdoor brands like Marmot, or Mountain Hardwear, Patagonia, Arc'Teryx, etc. The fleeces, at least when I bought mine, are still made in California, USA so that is a big bonus for some buyers. One of my softshells was made in China and the other in the USA. There are several companies make TAD knockoffs (or "inspired by") like Red Dragon Airsoft and Condor if you want to dabble for cheap to see if you like the fit. I can't guarantee how well they're made considering the prices are pretty low.

One negative is that TAD has an annoying habit of stocking just one batch of stuff once a year during season and when it's gone, it's gone until next year. You might not want to buy next year because they change the design each year. If they're out, you'll have to check if anyone has it for sale on forums or ebay.

Re: Any opinions on the TAD Ranger Hoodie?

Thanks, I appreciate the great insight and feedback. Their stocking cycles and limited availability are really what lead me to ask my question as I found out that this year's Ranger is going up on the TAD website tomorrow. I think I'm going to give it a try, but I'm going to look around the forums first.

Re: Any opinions on the TAD Ranger Hoodie?

$230 for a hoodie, really. But it will literally make you throw rocks at a similar North Face jacket. My only complaint about my Ranger hoodie is I don't get to wear it enough down here in Texas. I even like the thumb holes......

Damn, really?! I really wasn't planning to use my credit card for this, but...

Re: Any opinions on the TAD Ranger Hoodie?

I've been waiting two years to buy one of these. They sell out within days. So if you want one dont wait too long or you'll have to wait until next year.

Re: Any opinions on the TAD Ranger Hoodie?

No guarantee, but that's what the sales girl said when I called the store yesterday.

That's in line with what I was told a few weeks ago. They said the end of August for the Ranger Hoodie and beginning of December for the Shagmaster. I signed up for the email notification.

Re: Any opinions on the TAD Ranger Hoodie?

The LT is great too, love the Ranger but the LT can be worn a little more regularly in moderate weather. The Rangie Hoodie is WARM....which is good, but the LT may be my new favorite fleece of the week.

Priced between Arc'teryx and Patagonia, and made in the USA. This type of outdoor gear is pretty common in the backcountry and mountains here. I'm not sure about other parts of the country where its warmer or drier.

Re: Any opinions on the TAD Ranger Hoodie?

Love mine, well made and extremely warm. I use it during winter time with just a t shirt and a thermal base layer. Throw on a shell over that and youre good to go.

Re: Any opinions on the TAD Ranger Hoodie?

Just ordered a UE Grey one, can't wait to try it out this winter. Guess that means I'll be putting it use in about a month around here:0
It seems to be s**t or get of the pot when deciding on TAD products. I've been thinking about one of these since last year. I don't think I'll be disapointed.

Re: Any opinions on the TAD Ranger Hoodie?

I love mine, bought it last fall. It's amazing how warm it is and I was surprised how well it blocks the wind. I even wore it in January for whitetail hunting and ran my trap line in it. It exceeded my expectations when it showed up and like others said my only complaint is that I don't get to wear it enough.

Re: Any opinions on the TAD Ranger Hoodie?

I just ordered a Loden Green and ME Tan. I couldn't make up my mind. I'll keep one and sell the other. I missed out the last two years on these.

Re: Any opinions on the TAD Ranger Hoodie?

I just bought a loden as well. You guys weren't kidding. They are already sold out of a couple of color and size combinations.

Re: Any opinions on the TAD Ranger Hoodie?

I have a Ranger and a Ranger LT; in California, the LT is definitely my preference. I've only felt the need to run the regular Ranger at one or two range days when it was in the low 30's, and even then, the LT probably would have been fine. I just wear a short-sleeve t-shirt underneath; it's amazing how well they do at regulating body temperature.

Re: Any opinions on the TAD Ranger Hoodie?

I cant believe how fast these things sell out. They'll be out of the popular color combinations by the end of the weekend it appears.
