I just sold another AR dropping my collection to just over 20, and I am wondering which one of these to buy. If I sale my new ACOG, I'd probably get a 40x, but for the $800-$900 range which would you buy? And where and how much are the factory 5R's in 308? I don't see them on the site, or is it on the Custom shop's site? I wanna do a 308, since the .243 is doing good, and I'm down to 5 total Bolt guns. I used to have 15, and several of them custom built, and got the Bike bug, and sold just about out for a new Honda VFR Interceptor. Now with 4 kids, guns are much more safe than a bike for Dad. Sounds crazy to gun haters, but is actually true. Which Gun???

Re: OK guys Savage BVSS or stick with Rem 700

Go Savage! But it's tough because you can buy just about everything for a 700.

Last I knew the 5R was pretty high in price like $1200 and while it is a nice rifle I have heard it's not worth the cost. You can buy a donor action or bare bones rifle and spend what you saved over the 5R and be better off.

I hear you on the bike thing also! Wife says it's ok to get another one but whats the point when I would only be able to ride it to work and back?? (I live in a small town so work is not even 2 miles away!) I have pretty much given up on a new bike till the 4 kids are old enough to drive.

5Rs are 1,100 plus most of the time that said I would still go with a 700. I've yet to meet anyone that would prefer a savage over rem action out shooting matches. I'm sure they are around I've just yet to meet one.

I live in a tiny tiny town, but drive 60m round trip to work 4 tens a week for a Div. of DOD, and I hardly ever ride anymore.

$1100 for a 5R may be depending on what I can get it for. I can usually buy a gun for much cheaper simply because my local FFL, is one of the top sellers in NC, and even in the USA. He sales guns at 5-10% above cost, and once in a while he will sale it to me at cost. Like the LRPV Savage I was lookin at was $1355 on their site, $1100 at one FFL store, and he offered to order it for $975 plus tax, so I'll check with him, maybe get a cpl more comments and see what to order. Thanks for comments guys, hope to get more

I've got a Savage 5R...a couple listed on gunbroker. Very happy with it. I was hoping for a Savage AICS...no dice, went JP. Savage barrels have always proved to be accurate out of the box. I'm not a comp shooter but what these things do...for the money...is just stupid smart!

Usually the top 5 to 7 places out of top 10 shooters on the score sheet at our 1000 yard matches are using Savages. They just plain work, they shoot and you can build and modify it on your kitchen table. And we have a good friend that builds guns and we still chose Savages. And yes there are a lot of high end customs that compete with us so it's not like we've not seen them shoot.

Sweet lookin setup. Got me thinking, which is good I guess, since time is money. Might just be a 308 Savage on my list. I listened to a cpl guys on here about BC stocks, and was extremely impressed with the Light Tac.compared to my HSP.Thanks guys

Re: OK guys Savage BVSS or stick with Rem 700

I have the Savage LRP 6.5 Creedmoor and it shoots lights out! Could not be more pleased with it. I had plans of doing this and that with it before I got it? Now I'm not doing a thing in case I wreck it!

Re: OK guys Savage BVSS or stick with Rem 700

I have the same gun as Uncledog57, was able to place midpack in my second LR match to 1K. Only the third time I had shot past 200 yards. It's a great shooter, certainly much better than me right now.

Re: OK guys Savage BVSS or stick with Rem 700

Everyone says they have a Savage that shoots light out. I don't disagree. They my run well single feeding or in slow match but they are crap when it come to Tac Matches compared to a Rem.

Re: OK guys Savage BVSS or stick with Rem 700

savages are great rifles. the accutrigger is better than the xmark. in addition, the comparable rem 700s are typically $100-200 more than the savage.

In addition, Rem extraction is ten times better well worth 100 to 200 dollars premium.
