NF base on 300RUM?

Will I even be able to zero @ 100yrd w/40moa?

Running 8-32x56 NXS
Internal adjustments:
65MOA elev. 45MOA wind.
17.7Mil elev. 12.3Mil wind.

or...
Will the scope have enough adjustment w/20MOA?

Yardage range: 100-1800

Thanks

Re: 20 or 40 MOA...

Never exceds half the elevation in tilt.
So maximum tilt for your scope is 30moa/9mils

With no tilt you should probably be able to reach 800 and with 20-30 Moa you should probably pass 1200

Re: 20 or 40 MOA...

If 1800 is your goal then go 40 moa as it will give you more room for windage. Why the 100 yd zero?

Its just the way I have always done it with my short actions. Why not with the 300 RUM?

Then I need to look towards Seekins 30 MOA base. Will this be a better option than a 20 MOA base? Or, would the 5.5-22x56 NightForce & a 20MOA base be the better way to go instead of the 8-32x56 and a 30MOA base? Need some input on this one. I don't want to limit this gun by my choice of optics/base. My budget is $2,000 for glass. So, lets hash this out so I get the best options on the rifle that are going to allow the gun to achieve its full potential.

Thanks for the info!

What happens when exceed half the elevation in tilt, in this case 30MOA/9mils?

Again, thanks for the help. I have never had a gun that had the potential to get out past 1,200 yards, so I want to at least set the gun up right.

Re: 20 or 40 MOA...

I have a .338 Lapua with a 40 MOA base and a NF 5.5-22x and I can get a 100 yard zero out of it...

Heres a link to a previous posting with a similar problem. By the way how many moa to get up to 1800 with the RUM?

for me its 107.8 moa to get out to 1800m. 200 gr hpmk

Re: 20 or 40 MOA...

You also might want to check out the Sightron SIII series. The Vortex Razor would also be a good choice with 125moa but will limit you to 20x.

Re: 20 or 40 MOA...

Don't get a 40 MOA base if you want to zero that scope at 100 yards. As stated above, don't exceed half your total elevation travel.

Yeah but your optic has at least 100 moa of elevation adjustment, I think the OP wanted to know if a 40 MOA base would work with the 8-32X56 NXS for a 100yd zero. Running a 40 MOA base on a 8-32x56mm would not be advisable or work.

Pretty much any optic that had 90+ moa internal elevation adjustment would work with a 40 MOA base and 100 yd zero.

I would opt for a NXS 5.5-22x56 and a 40 MOA base for what the op is trying to do "shoot out to 1800yds".

Re: 20 or 40 MOA...

Thanks for all the replies.

I agree with Frankthefly, the 5.5-22x56 would be the best option that Night Force has to offer. That is as far a internal adjustments.

It stays in accordance with the "do not exceed half the elevation in tilt."
