Range Report Best of the West near Austin

Re: Best of the West near Austin

Thank you for this. I will definately check them out, but I have not been there.

Re: Best of the West near Austin

Go there at least once a week (usually on Saturdays) for long range rifle shooting. Prices are resonable, the staff is friendly, they have bays for short range pistol and rifle, trap and skeet ranges for the shot gun crowd, and my favorate, a 1000 yard rifle range. Paper at 50, 100 and 250 with steel at 250, 500, 750 and 1000 yards. However, there is a qualification requirement to shoot beyond 500 yards. The firing line is covered and shooting is not limited to just bench. You can stand, lay down, sit, kneel, etc., when shooting. Best shooting facility in central Texas.

I plan to be there Saturday morning. Great range, and the membership is great if you live close enough to go 2-3 times a month.

Re: Best of the West near Austin

What's the crowd like on the weekends? Been meaning to go, but it's a two hour drive from San Antonio and I don't really care for the crowded lanes. the only place I have is over an hour south, but it's only out to 500

good for load development but boring as hell with a GAP Hospitaller. And what do you have to do to "qual?"

Re: Best of the West near Austin

There are 30 plus shooting positions on the rifle range and even on weekends I've never not been able to get a position on the firing line. Qual is simple, under the observation of the RO you must be able to hit a 250 and 500 yard steel target 3 times. The steel at both ranges is aprox 16" X 18". Piece of cake if you know the drop data for your rifle/ammo combination.

Thanks. Looks like its definitely on the trip list. Might have to wait a couple of weeks though, gotta get my fill of doves first.

Re: Best of the West near Austin

where do you go in the San Antonio area ?
Im moving up there in October and looking for places to shoot. Most places i've seen are mostly catered to pistol and only out to 100yd for rifle

Re: Best of the West near Austin

Just finished a nice shooting session, and it was great! what a fun place with super nice staff.
