I can only assume it is a solid tac driver.

I have a 300rum in a drop in AX chassis and love it.

The actual AX338 comes with an full top integral rail for mounting which is nice.

can't remember the msrp of it, that would be my only thought. If money is of concern what it has or doesn't have compared to other .338s

But as far as the AX is concerned, i think it is so comfortable, love the pistol grip. My hand just feels so natural with placement and trigger pull

wish i had some experience with the actual AX338

Re: AX-338

Shot mine last weekend to 1715 yards. I love the AX, solid platform, easy to shoot.

Mine was actually on the TV shows Top Shot and Top Guns; my rifle is famous

In your opinion a solid improvement over the AW series? Also have you ordered a custom barrel for it yet?

Re: AX-338

I prefer the AX to the AW, yes.

Haven't needed to order a custom barrel for the 338, it will last me a long time I'm sure. I've ordered probably 4 barrels for my short action AX, 243 and 308 mixed.

Now all you have to do is get an AX 50 and, your family will be complete.

That is a nice rig you have there, congrats on acquiring it.

ETA: On barrel changes, how many pounds of torque are required when tightening a barrel, or is it a "pretty f*ckin tight" type deal?

Re: AX-338

A friend has one. Last time I shot it, I put 3 shots into a 1/2" group at 200 yds. using no rear bag. The thing can shoot, I will tell you that.

Re: AX-338

I'm a newbee shooter and to the hide and just trying to soak up info. I just bought a 300RUM and have been wanting to drop it into an ax or a mcree, but I don't know what magazine to run. Do you have to modify the ai 338 mags?

Re: AX-338

I shot an AX 338LM a couple of months ago in a Rifles Only course. The AX was provided by Mile High Shooting -- Randy and Diann ROCK! The AX was suppressed, so it was a pleasure to shoot. IMO the recoil pulse of the suppressed 338LM was greater than that of my unsuppressed .308, but not by a huge amount.

We were using Hornady 285 HPBT ammo, which was quite acccurate in the rifle. I shot steel at 750, 1000, and 1500 yards. The AX was a tack driver at 750 and 1000, although with similar accuracy as my GAP Crusader at those distances.

Shooting the AX at 1500 yards was a bit more interesting, as we had fishtailing breezes on the range. The guys going for the 22"x40" steel rang it like clockwork. Those of us shooting at the 14" gong at 1500 had more challenges. But once our spotters got the wind calls down, three of us were ringing the 14" gong.

I like the AX platform better than the AW -- it just seems to fit me better. Trigger is nice, ergonomics are good, adjustments are great, the bolt action is smooth. But I still prefer a more traditional stock, as I like to lay the thumb of my trigger hand on top of the stock, just behind the bolt.
