I'll be putting the Viper PST 6-24x50 on 20 MOA TPS steel base. But I don't know what height of rings I should go with, does anyone have any suggestions?
Here are my options:
Burris XTRs or TPS TSRs, any other suggestions?

Thanks for your comments.

On an 20 moa EGW base, I went with super low aluminum TPS rings. It's been working well.

What rifle/stock are you using? I assume you're just trying to get as close to the bore as possible?

The rifle is stock for now.... In fact its still in transit

I wrote to vortex and their response was :
We would recommend using our medium height Precision Matched rings http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/vortex-precision-matched-rings-30mm-riflescope-medium-height

These are .97 in height..... I am strongly considering TPS 20 moa base with medium rings. What do you guys think?

You can see the clearance between my barrel and scope here:

Still a ton of clearance with super lows... really wouldn't go medium.

I used Seekins medium .87 on a savage lrp with 20 moa base. With butler creek caps I still have enough clearance to probably have gone with the lows .82. Seems to me like the .97 you are looking at would be plenty if not too much. IMHO, seekins are the best rings.

Re: Viper PST 6-24x50 on Varmint SF ring size..

i ran an egw 20moa rail...and seekins lows, and the thing was sky high. now i've got an egw HD 0moa rail and the same rings...and it's still too high, but a lot better

Re: Viper PST 6-24x50 on Varmint SF ring size..

I thought Vortex's recommendation was a bit on the "safe" side as well. Based on what they told me I ordered a TPS Kit from SWFA (steel 20 MOA base with steel rings).

Ring height is about 27mm plus the base, another 7-8mm right (can anyone confirm this?), if I subtract the size of the bell (25mm from the center) that leaves about 3/8 inch or 8-9mm (am I doing this right???) left.
That may be a bit too much

On the other hand, I just got an email from SWFA that my kit is on back order, (they don't have the bases in stock).

So I wonder, do you guys know of a different place where I can get the TPS steel base for as good of a price as SWFA and am I right in assuming that the Low version of the rings is a better way to go?

Re: Viper PST 6-24x50 on Varmint SF ring size..

Is that a Viper with 44 or a 50mm objective?

I run a TPS low rings with that scope. Thats what is currently running on my rifle and I might have a credit card thickness clearence.

This is going on to Remi 700 Varmint SF (.82 OD barrel)

.
I will need enough clearance for the caps to go ON, credit card thickness sounds a bit small of a gap.

Re: Viper PST 6-24x50 on Varmint SF ring size..

That's with a 50mm objective.

Perhaps the EGW base is taller than others?

Re: Viper PST 6-24x50 on Varmint SF ring size..

My savage has a 1" diameter barrel. I used a warne tactical 20 moa base. With the .87 rings and BCs, I have more than a credit card gap. The warne base is not as thick as the egw, probably closer the the egw hd. You should be fine with .82 rings and any picatinny and still have more than a credit card gap.

Re: Viper PST 6-24x50 on Varmint SF ring size..

I ran into the same issue with the same scope. I emailed badger ordnance and they said that with their 20moa base to use their standard rings.

Re: Viper PST 6-24x50 on Varmint SF ring size..

Thanks everyone, I am convinced now that the Vortex rep was being a little to safe, I went with TPS XP steel base and TPS TSR steel low rings. I am estimating about 8mm clearance between the bell and the barrel which is a bit high but we'll see
