Why do I have to hit the back button twice?

Why do I have to hit the back button twice to go from an individual subject back to the parent forum? Just noticed this in the last few days. When I go into a forum home page everything is fine. When I click on an individual subject and I am ready to go back to the parent forum, I have to click the back button twice.

When I leave a parent forum such as reloading to go back to the forum list, I only have to click once.

I thought it was my home pc, but it happens with the work pc also.

are you using the "TOP" hyperlink to take you to the top?

Re: Why do I have to hit the back button twice?

Same here

Re: Why do I have to hit the back button twice?

Nice to know I'm not the the only one.

Had another issue today too. I don't have any links/favorites on this computer so to get to the Hide I enter SH into Google and click on forums. Today it wouldn't load the page. I had to go to the main SH web page and click forums to get here.

Re: Why do I have to hit the back button twice?

I dont have this problem. Running the stock browser on android ICS.

Suggest you guys provide more detail on your setup when bringing up issues like this. Need to know what kind of hardware and software and OS youre running.

Re: Why do I have to hit the back button twice?

Today the forum was hacked by the Chinese, so it was down for about an hour, so that is why it wouldn't work.

Any browser related issue are normally due to running Internet Explorer as the site software has known compatibility issues with IE, sometimes with Firefox depending on the Windows security settings.

If you find you have function issues, I recommend using Chrome.

You can add SH to your "trusted sites" in IE and you might solve some problems but not all. At times, ISP security settings will cause an issue too until the site is filtered through, but most of these issues are compatibility issues between the end users computer and the forum software. I have no fixes other than a series of security adjustments and browser changes as noted above.

The site went down right after someone posted the video of Brandon Raub...we were wondering

It's not doing it in Chrome, but I tried IE just to see and sure enough there's a twitter app in there.

What does China want with Sniper's Hide?

Re: Why do I have to hit the back button twice?

They want some Frank Love....

Re: Why do I have to hit the back button twice?

And today everything is working as it should. Hit the back button only once.

No changes made to laptop or winders browser.

Re: Why do I have to hit the back button twice?

I use two sites regularly that are larger and smaller than SH. This site has more issues than the other ones combined.....not even close. I often get failure to load, back button double click or just screwy glitches with this site. I rarely go a day without the site just being non-accessible for short periods. This is across several machines at home and work. My back button is also back to single click with no changes on my end today.

The only change we made to the site is, we removed Google's ability to index the site as they were a large part of our blackouts. We were well aware that Googlebot put a large strain on the site at various times, and because they eliminated our ability to manually adjust how much they indexed, we were forced to block them.

As far as other sites, size is not the issue, software is. We have been using UBB Threads since the beginning it has known issues, especially with Windows and IE based users. Short of completely abandoning UBB for a newer and different forum software, we are at the mercy of UBBs glitches and problems. UBB has changed hands and has also promised new software, but they are woefully behind in that promise.

This week I decided to double the site's capacity, we are currently on 3 servers and will be on 6 hopefully by Sept 5th, that should help. Still there is no getting around the fact we face DDoS attacks on a daily basis and fight off hack attempts on a weekly basis... The chinese have no interest beyond any of the other hack attempts that have landed. We have blocked hacks from Italy, Brazil, Russia, and now China, those are the ones we have traced. In a site like this, fighting hackers and malicious web code is a daily fight.

The 1 minute outages, are a result of the DDoS attacks combined with the Googlebot indexing. When the two meet, it knocks the site out of short period of time until the system automatically resets. We have automated responses set up, those responses act, which is why it blackouts. Removing Google has minimized that, and the fact things are working today and weren't yesterday, that is a known UBB / Internet Explorer incompatibility issue. Out of our control.

Re: Why do I have to hit the back button twice?

It is fixed.

Hey Frank. Is it possible to block anything that comes from china? Haven't seen to many precision shooters on the boards from there so it may be no big loss.

Apologies for seeming dense, but I dont understand the reason the Chinnknese want to hack a site like Snipers Hide. American Express, Bank of America, I can understand, but most of us arent posting financial info on her.

Re: Why do I have to hit the back button twice?

Why do you have to understand it ...

Hackers have attacked this site and inserted code before, why because it's a challenge and they can.

Because the hack came from China, we are not saying the "Chinese Government" why are you people so fucking dense ? Explain that too me... a Hacker in China struck, not the first time a "HACKER" has attacked any site.

They exploit what they can and practice their craft where ever and when ever they feel like it.

Go to a hacker forum and ask them why they hack anything they do ?

Some insert code, some insert virus, and not all virus steal information, some just break shit. Some just drop in notes and say they were here. You're asking me to tell you their motivation ?

Dense I tell you, and coming from the guys who constantly try to side track my rules with veiled political posts, and other assorted unrelated to shooting bullshit, it is certainly the pot calling the kettle black.

Re: Why do I have to hit the back button twice?

I'd come regularly here even if it dinked on me 10x as much. Didn't intend that to come off as complaining, just comparing to the other couple sites I frequent. It is apparent that much more is involved behind the scenes to keep things going than an average computer ignorant surfer such as myself would realize. What do the hackers hope to accomplish attacking the site? Is the goal just to disrupt?
