Re: Anyone interested in an M&P Shield review?

Yes please. I am thinking about picking one up.

Re: Anyone interested in an M&P Shield review?

Sure do..this is something on my "soon to acquire" list

Re: Anyone interested in an M&P Shield review?

Let us know what you think.

I've been looking for one for a while but can't seem to ever find one in stock locally.

Re: Anyone interested in an M&P Shield review?

I just bought a M&P Shield in 40 S&W and it is a little handful. Muzzle flip isn't as bad as my Ruger LC9 but still a fast 2nd DP is out of the question at this point....Maybe more range time and a more realistic range...50 ft for a 3-7 yard gun is a bit of a stretch.

The 40 was one of the 1st to ship so problems could be expected...2 FTF on the 1st visit to the range.

Just for reference my Ruger LC9 or SR40c have never had a FTF or FTE issue.

Overall I would have to say the S&W has a better finish than either of the Rugers.

Size wise the LC9 is slightly smaller and comes with Mag extensions (Pinky Tangs)that give a bit more grip....Maybe S&W will address this down the road as the M&P40c has that extensions.

I will be picking up a S&W40c here soon.

All said the Shield is a great little carry gun in my opinion and will be even better as I get used to it and maybe a few mods.

One thing about the M&P over the Ruger in the standard hole in the slide Load Chamber over Rugers Red Pop Up Flag.

Now back to tlsmith, the OP for his thoughts.

Re: Anyone interested in an M&P Shield review?

Tag. I'm on the waiting list, expected in Jan. I've read the .40 is a handful. I told the dealer I'd take which ever one came in first.

Thanks for taking the time for a review.

Re: Anyone interested in an M&P Shield review?

I have around 600 rounds through my Shield 9. No failures of any kind. The gun is a very good shooter, it reminds me of my Glock 19. It is the same size as a PPS. The 9mm comes with 2 mags: 1 7 rd, 1 8 rd.

Trigger is good to quite good. Stock sights are excellent. I have medium sized hands and it is a good fit. Because of it's size and weight, it shoots like a full size gun more than a small mouse/pocket gun. It can be shot at the range all day without hand pain.

Now if they would just make a threaded barrel.

); I ordered a 9 on 7/28 and just got the call to come pick it up this afternoon!

Looking forward to giving her a test-drive this weekend.

Re: Anyone interested in an M&P Shield review?

I have been waiting about four weeks or one from my dealer. The one downside to supporting a small local shop.

Re: Anyone interested in an M&P Shield review?

The primary downside to the Shield right now relates to the magazine release issues experienced in the .40S&W model. In the examples that I've seen, it occurred mostly with the extended magazine, regardless of the number of rounds loaded. S&W will probably have a fix for this soon, but anyone looking to buy the .40 should be aware of this potential issue.

Re: Anyone interested in an M&P Shield review?

Sorry guys...I been swamped...will get a review out this week...sportsman warehouse locally here got 60 in yday and sold out today

Re: Anyone interested in an M&P Shield review?

That would make for a good head-to-head review; Shield versus PPS AS.

Re: Anyone interested in an M&P Shield review?

Having owned both the 9mm Shield and 9mm PPS, my vote is for the Shield. I do like the trigger better on the PPS, but now that I installed the Duty Carry trigger from Apex into the Shield, it feels great with a more positive reset.

I am interested to see if other Shield owners experience a shot pattern that is left of point of aim....Everyone I have talked to seems to experience it to one degree or another. I think it is due to the guns small frame size, and shooters get too much finger on the trigger, thus pushing the gun to the left. With the new trigger installed, no longer an issue.

Re: Anyone interested in an M&P Shield review?

Was your PPS an AS model? Love to see you do a head-to-head review.

Re: Anyone interested in an M&P Shield review?

Well...may have a problem here...

I picked up my Shield as planned Friday night after work. Took a quick look at it at the store but didn't really go over it until I was prepping for a trip to the range Saturday morning. While doing some dry-fire drills to get a feel for the trigger I noticed something was a little off with the sights.

After checking things over a little more closely the sights (at least the rear sight) seem to be canted a bit to the right (clockwise). I can't tell if the dovetail in the slide is milled out-of-square or if its something else but something is definitely off. I've been really slammed with work so I haven't had a chance to do anything about it yet but I'm gonna try to give S&W Customer Service a call tomorrow to see what they have to say. Will report back.
