Is there any difference between standard lc brass an match or lr brass other than the crimp, I have a few thousand cases that just say lc 05 and the NATO mark. I plan on loading a bunch for my new m1a but I was also wondering if I de-crimp and uniform the primer pockets can it be processed to match quality brass for my 700. I don't believe it is mg brass but I'm not 100% I got it streight from the base and it came from the rifle range not a training area.

Re: Standard lc brass

I haven't tested enough to know if the capacity and all is the same as LC LR or match, but as long as LC Nato wasn't fired out a MG, it's awesome brass....

where it falls short is after MG firing, they beat the hell out of it and greatly decrease case life...

virgin or once fired in a bolt rifle, I love LC nato brass

Re: Standard lc brass

A lot of my cases have a small dent right below the neck, I ran a few on my neck sizer and tumbled them and the looked pretty good, then I decided to run a few through a full length sizer and it makes the dents much worse. Is there anything I can do to avoid this?

Re: Standard lc brass

I weighed both LC match, and LC cases from the same year. Both lots weighed the same. I heard that the match cases go through some additional manufacturing steps to make them more consistent, but I can't tell from shooting them.

I have found that the LC ball, LC match, and Federal GMM cases all shoot to the same point of zero. I zero at 100 yards, then adjust upward to 300 yards, and all 3 lots of ammo hit the same place.

The proviso here is that I do lots of case prep prior to loading. Uniform primer pockets, deburr all flash holes inside the case, trim all cases to the same length, and de-burr inside and outside case necks.

Re: Standard lc brass

I've loaded a ton of standard LC NATO brass for m1a's and ar-10's.It is great brass and should do all you expect of it.
You mentioned dents in the case below the mouth that got worse after resizing. Are these dents on the shoulder or the body?Body dents will usually float out(at least partially)after resizing, but if the dent is on the shoulder and it gets worse, you may be getting too much case lube on the shoulder. All you need is just a super thin coat on this area, not excessively wet.

LC match is exactly the same as the non-match brass, the only difference being the crimp.

Like somebody else mentioned, your dimples are from using too much oil/lube.

Re: Standard lc brass

A buddy & I both picked up 7.62MM autoloaders (FNAR & M14) that exibited good accuracy with LC M118LR & M80. So I worked up a 155gr. A-MAX Hornady bullet load for hunting/HD at relatively short range using the once-fired LC brass. Since I had (2) types of LC brass to choose from, I weighed a handful of each type after it was sized/primer pockets swaged as needed then uniformed/flash holes deburred/trimmed/mouth chamfered. The LC NATO brass averaged virtually the same weight as LC LR brass but the LC LR brass weight varied markedly less (below). I also weighed a handful of new LAPUA casings for comparison. FWIW

type casing-/min--/max--/average/variation
LC88 NATO-/175.3/178.7/177.1----/3.4gr.
LC04 LR-----/176.9/177.3/177.1----/0.4gr.
NEW LAPUA/171.5/172.4/172.1----/0.9gr.
