Anyone had any first hand experience? I have been considering a Concept VII or a VI, they run about 1900$. Are there any real huge quality differences between say an SA TRP? I am about to be done with some long azz training and I am goin to get a new blaster. I have never put my hands on a Baer 1911 so I am kind of in the dark. Don't want to end up dissapointed that I didn't put the extra 4-5 hundred bones into ammo. I would be happy to have a TRP, but I really want somthing maybe a little nicer and am willing to throw the cash at it. Any info would help.

Re: Les Baer 1911?

You will be happy.

I have a Custom Carry Commanche, I believe it is simaler to the concept VIII.

I was kicking around the TRP or a Custom Carry. The wait on a TRP was really long, and I found two vendors online who had Custom Carries in stock.

It's been a while since I did research, but I do remember that the TRP does have some MIM parts in it if that is something that matters to you.

After owning mine for a year and putting a few thousand rounds through it the fun is flawless and there is no regrets.

Re: Les Baer 1911?

I have two Les Baer .45's and my son has one, all different models. We are both very happy with the guns and we will purchase others when the need (want) arrives. The only issue I have is the pistol I carry for work is so tight that I really "hate" dissembly for cleaning. Our guns are reliable and shoot very well. These are very well made and very well priced for the product.

Re: Les Baer 1911?

My only complaints with my gun are the shitty mags that came with it, and the finish on the gun is so thin. Les puts the time and effort into the parts that matter, not the cosmetics.

The blueing on the slide is worn to bare metal from holster wear on mine, but it is kind of a cool look. Also, from carrying during the summer my grip frame developed rust under the grip pannels were the gun was rubbing on my skin.

Re: Les Baer 1911?

Cant go wrong with a Baer. Imo the Baer definately worth it over the Springer,,,,,

Re: Les Baer 1911?

I've never seen one that wasn't a jammomatic. I'd much rather deal with Springfield Armory, personally.

If I was between the TRP and any Les Baer, I'd save my money and get the TRP. If it didn't have the features I wanted, I'd get a full custom.

Re: Les Baer 1911?

TRP's are very nice but LB 10 out of 10 times all day everyday. I love my TRS and will buy another Baer some day. I've got just over 1200 rounds through mine with all kinds of handloads from JHP to LSWC and just flat out runs!

Call Crazy John over at CJ1911 and I bet you'll be surprised how close that LB price comes to the TRP price. He also stocks a sh*t ton of them. Good luck either way and post pics!

Re: Les Baer 1911?

I believe Iam going fir the Baer.
Googled CJ1911, his web site is... Kind of archaic but I will give him a call when I get home in November. Do you know where in Idaho his shop is located?

Dave is also good to go, I got my Custom Carry from him.

When I finish my rifle and get glass on it my pistol is going back to him for the Hard Hat Treatment.

You won't go wrong with either Dave or John.

Re: Les Baer 1911?

The reason I went with Dave over John was the fact that I heard that not all commander length Baers are able to be slingshotted.

When I talked to John about that problem he admitted some Baers cant slingshot, but unfortunately that's the way it is.

I shared my same concern with Dave and he said that before any gun leaves his shop he goes through them, and he assured me that mine would slingshot just fine.
It did

Re: Les Baer 1911?

Concept V. So tight when I got it I was certain it wouldn't run. That was about 7K - 8K rounds ago. Not a hitch.

Before the Beta mag double stacks took over USPSA, I knew a number of shooters using Baers. All swore by them.

Re: Les Baer 1911?

My experience is the same as Eddies. When I got my first Les Baer I was convinced it was way too tight to ever be reliable. Right out of the box it has never missed a lick and is super accurate. I have a 5" Premier II and a 6" Ultimate Master in 45 acp. I need one in 38 Super too!!!

If your Les Baer isnt running, perhaps you should take a hard look at your ammo.

Re: Les Baer 1911?

I had two LB's which I purchased from crazy John - he'll talk your ear off on the phone, so be prepared, if you call him. Great guy, fast service. The 9mm 1911 had the worst mags ever - both fell apart on my first range trip - the gun however functioned flawlessly - both the 45 and 9mm were tight as a drum - initially hard to disassemble for cleaning, but they ran like a premier firearm should. You won't be disappointed. I sold mine to get double stack guns from STI - but I do miss the LB's - just a very fine and well built gun.

Re: Les Baer 1911?

I bought a PII with the 1.5" guarantee from crazy John. Super nice guy. Good price. The gun has run perfectly. Not one single hiccup.

If I was doing it over, I would buy another Baer from crazy John again.

Re: Les Baer 1911?

I bought a Les Baer Stinger a few months ago and love it. It was super tight when it was new. Thight to the point that it tore into my skin when racking the slide. It loosened up after a few hundred rounds. Shoots great and never gave me any problems. It's been about 1500 rounds so far.
I like it so much that I am thinking about a full size from them in the near future.

Re: Les Baer 1911?

I have a Supertac with a hard chrome finish, solid trigger, no FCS, and a naked slide. Shoots great. It has the 1.5" guarantee.

I wouldn't call it a jamomatic. I get jams every couple of thousand rounds. My most recent was a round that I didn't size right. I had to hit the back of the slide a couple of times to force the round into the chamber. Probably not a good idea.

When I first got it, I had several hiccups in the first 500 rounds. After that, a lot of the kinks smoothed out. I was going to get the trigger worked on as it was a little gritty, but after break-in, the trigger is smooth.

That's a great reco right there. Some people think that the 1.5" guns are exceptionally tight. In fact, they tend to not be as tight as the guns without the 1.5" guarantee. You really aren't trading off reliability with this option.

However, the 1.5" guarantee is only available with the CS guns. The Concept VII and VI are stainless. I would go with CS and get a good finish (that's why I went with hard chrome).

I think a PII with a 1.5" guarantee and HC finish would fit the bill nicely. And as mentioned above, Crazy John can get you a crazy good deal on that.

They don't 'tighten it' to make the pistol more accurate. The difference is in selection of the barrel.

Re: Les Baer 1911?

You won't be disappointed with LB. I have a P II with the 1.5 guarantee, and when I take an inexperienced shooter to the range with half a dozen blasters, I let them shoot the P II last, and watch their eyes light up.
