Whats the overall opinion on these for high angled shooting, useful tool, or un-neccessary gadget?

If useful then could you recommend a particular brand?

Thanks

Thats pretty neat. A nice alternative the A.C.I. or a nice back-up to one.

Re: Angle cosine indicators

SInce I already have a level in my Spuhr mount, the level in this Horus Angle Slope Level Indicator is redundant, but so far it is the only indicator I have found that reads both the angle and the cosine. There is also a mounting accessory to mate it to the Spuhr mount. I too wonder if an inclinometer in a laser rangefinder will make the ASLI just a useless dingleberry on my rifle.

Re: Angle cosine indicators (Usless dingleberry?)

An ASLI will be nice to have (cosine X distance = ballistic distance) when yer LRF fails and you have to use yer reticle for ranging. Isn't that the same reason you carry yer MilDot Master?

Besides, it impresses the uninitiated. That's my reason fer ownin' one and I'm stickin' to it.

Re: Angle cosine indicators (Usless dingleberry?)

Larry you live in Florida, what "Angles" are you shooting ?

You need more than 10 degrees to matter and some distance to add it too.

Re: Angle cosine indicators (Usless dingleberry?)

Wow, need to get something to deal with this issue. Didn't realize it was gonna cost $150, ouch.

Well I haven't shot any angles as of yet, I'd really like to attend a course on how to do so properly.

BTW, we have rolling hills here in Florida!

Central Florida along the ridge, near Bok Tower. Ok so there aren't a lot of hills but it's surely the highest place in Fl.

If you say so, it's your money...

You'll be the coolest guy on the block with an ACI attached to their rifle for sure. If you want to really impress them, dig a hole, mount it on your handgun and show em what a real angle looks like.

See my edit, It's not something very practical here, to be sure. I will probably be moving to Arizona or Nevada in the next year or so, so I thought a little training prior would be nice. I'd only be punching paper and steel.

Re: Angle cosine indicators (Usless dingleberry?)

You dont' need an ACI to learn how to engage targets at an angle...

You use an ACI to do it quickly, as you take the cosine of the dope to get the new solution.

But learning how to account for angles has nothing to do with buying gear, especially in this case... plenty of time for an ACI when you move and actually get out there.

Odds are, even in AZ and NV the actual ranges you shoot on will have very little angles that need to be accounted for... ACIs are for guys moving up and down mountains engaging different targets from different angles at different distances from shot to shot.

In the image, you simply take that .98 and multiply it by your dope, so if you need 10 MOA to hit a 500 yard target you only need 9.8 MOA to hit it. You just learned how to use it.

I appreciate the info Frank and I will wait till I move to see if there are any of your aforementioned scenarios. You just saved me some money, thanks

Re: Angle cosine indicators

I used to use the clinometer on my compass, but after a while reading the angle becomes pretty intuitive.
