What caliber do I choose

I'm new to all this... Went and shot with some friends Saturday out to 1k. Now I want to build a rifle. I have a Savage in 6.5 Creedmoor and I like it, but it is the model 11 Long Range Hunter and I can't find an aftermarket stock anywhere. I also have a model 10 Savage in .308 that I wanted to have rebarreled into a Creedmoor. GAP won't talk about a Savage action. Should I go with Moon? Should I stay with the Creedmoor? I like it so far... Any thoughts?

Re: What caliber do I choose

I'd stay with the Creedmoor if you're getting good accuracy.

Re: What caliber do I choose

Nothing wrong with the Creed. Were I you, I'd buy a 700 action and send it to either Moon or GAP. Remember, you're going to be waiting for MONTHS to get it back. Keep your Savage up and running so you have something to shoot in the mean time.

Can't find an aftermarket stock for a 11LRH?

Call Tom Manners, he can fix you up.

Otherwise, you're pretty much stuck with Choate Tactical or a Bell & Carlson A2 Medalist for off-the-shelf options.

Re: What caliber do I choose

Manners said they don't have a replacement for the accustock. It has 3 action screws instead of 2 and is bedded full length.

The front most screw is for the "Accuwedge". You don't really need it as long as you bed the stock and the action. You should be able to use and 4.4" bolt spaced Savage Rifle stock. The only other thing to clarify is if your action has the bottom or side bolt release.

Re: What caliber do I choose

You might try XLR Industries, if you are interested in a chassis system. I know they have inlets for Savage actions. I have a Savage Model 12 sitting in one, and it is an excellent system. That rifle is also chambered in 6.5mm Creedmoor, and I have no complaints.

What about Kevin Rayhill at Stockade Gunstocks. Does he make a stock to fit your action?

+1 for XLR.....they are an excellent chassis

Re: What caliber do I choose

Manners (using CDI bottom metal), XLR, and McCrees should all be able to fit a Savage 4.4 bolt spacing with bottom bolt release. Make sure you tell them about the bottom bolt release when ordering and verify that they understand what you are talking about.
