I recently picked up one of these. First outing was only at 100yds but was about MOA. Finally had the chance to shoot a little further. Still only 600 yards. Was not grouping for anything. Finally realized that the scope base had come loose. I did not expect that on a factory installed base.

If I pull the screws out and blue loctite them will they stay in place? Should I be looking for a different base with different screws? Looks like some people have upgraded the rail and screws to bigger screws.

Re: Savage 110 fcp scope base?

I know the monster rail on my BA came loose after a few trips to the range. I don't think Savage is mounting them tight from the factory and most of the dealers that sell them don't bother to double-check them. The factory rail will be fine with the blue Loctite and re-torquing to spec.

If I use any factory installed bases, I always check to make sure they are tight.

remove the bases and grab some q-tips with rubbing alcohol....clean everything as good as you can, even the threads on the screws that youve taken out......you may need compressed air to get all of the tiny cotton pieces from the q-tips out when you're done......re-install with blue loctite, torque them down 20-25 INCH lbs, not foot lbs (roughly 1.5 ft lbs)......you'll be good to go

i would say 6-48, but that's just a guess.

I will take off the base and get it cleaned up and try it with blue loctite. I wont make that mistake again with expensive ammo. That hurt my pocket book!

Re: Savage 110 fcp scope base?

I used a 20MOA stainless Murphy Precision scope base on my 110. Ended up bedding it to the receiver for best stability using JB Weld, then used Loctite on the screws (mine came with 8-40 screws as a target port action) - it's not going anywhere.
