Opinions on the best tripod

Hi Guys,

I am looking for opinions based on experience regarding the best tripod for the utilization of a spotting scope.

The categories im interested in are rigidity/ stability, weight, expense, size and weather (element) resistance.

1. Use the Snipers Hide Google Search . There are a lot of threads and tons of info on tripods for spotters.

2. Manfrotto 190 or 055.

Manfrotto or Gitzo. Both are Italian ponies that are top notch. Expensive but buy once, cry once. Carbon fiber legs dampen better and handles nicer in very cold weather vs aluminum. Don't cheap out on the head either if you require one.

+1 for Manfrotto. Light weight and compact. Stores easily in pack. But don't let this fool you. This is a great product and will withstand field use.

Why not go with a PRS which can be used much easier for shooting as well. More flexibility in use options and half the cost of a Manfrotto

Another vote for Manfrotto. I've got two and they are great. Best tripod for the money in my opinion. If you're not worried about cost and want the best of the best take a look at Really Right Stuff tripods.

If you have the scratch, manfrotto 055 in carbon fiber

With one of their pistol grip heads. The 222 head can also br used a platform to shoot off of if you tilt it horizontal.
