So a while back I built this 6mm Super LR, because I wanted a true "cheater gun." I've been fireforming the brass at a local monthly mid-range varmint match that I run, but have not really wrung it out in terms of load tuning or anything.

In fact, I didn't have any idea how it would do past the 500m line.

Chuck (264shooter) and I happened to both take a day off over the last holiday weekend, and we said what the heck, let's go shooting and bring the cameras....

So, we went to our range that we've got set up in the middle of nowhere and put my 6mm against his 6.5mm. I chose to shoot the "go-to" load in the 6mm, which is a 115gr DTAC with H4831SC in the crap Winchester cases. Velocity is about 3025 fps.

I used Shooter for Android for the DOPE, and even with me second-guessing it half the time things went well. In fact, Shooter is scary accurate when using the G7 models and absolute air pressure (I wear a barometer watch).

We agreed to only bring 3 rds to the line at each 100-yard interval, no additional shots. We stuck to that and didn't fool around.

Anyhow, I'm still editing the video, but I have the first part done, the 500-1000 yard segment.

I'll be working on the 1000-1700 segment and getting that out as soon as everything allows.

EDIT: here it is: http://youtu.be/A8-I19XD9y4

The final summary video will include the drop values used to connect at each range. This was all done within about a 2-hour time window, and the rifles were shot side by side, so the exercise is pretty reasonable.

Great video and shooting. What are your cases fire formed from?

Re: Range report/video: 6mm SLR vs. 6.5 Creedmoor

That was pretty sweet fellas. Great shooting and documentation of the experience.

That looks like a lot of fun. When he misses the little to the right every time I had to laugh. I wish we had the area on the East Coast to do that kind of stuff.

Re: Range report/video: 6mm SLR vs. 6.5 Creedmoor

Wow that stock looks like a bad fit for Scotty, looks like he got butt in his armpit

Re: Range report/video: 6mm SLR vs. 6.5 Creedmoor

Hell of a video! It was entertaining and informative. Now, why can't we have shooters do this more often?

So, we can conclude that the 6.5 Creedmoor's performance lags compared to the 6SLR? Or should we fault the shooter for its performance?

Really enjoyed that video Scott good stuff.

Re: Range report/video: 6mm SLR vs. 6.5 Creedmoor

It would be fair to put the fault on the shooter on this day, the Creedmoor and the Super LR are real similar.

I just could not hit the small target and you could probably tell by the bleeps it was aggravating the crap out of me.

We are lucky to have the desert as our back yard !

Re: Range report/video: 6mm SLR vs. 6.5 Creedmoor

Nice shooting and wonderful weather conditions!
Enjoyed the video, look forward to part 2

Re: Range report/video: 6mm SLR vs. 6.5 Creedmoor

I would like to say thank you to Scotty for letting me be part of this and for all the time and effort he puts in to making these great videos.
Shooting the rifles is the fun and easy part of this exercise.

Hope you all enjoy the show.

Oh, and sorry there is no music in the video.......NOT!!!

Re: Range report/video: 6mm SLR vs. 6.5 Creedmoor

Great shooting!!! You did all this with a Rem 700 action, how impressive! Thank you for the video! Very nice!

Re: Range report/video: 6mm SLR vs. 6.5 Creedmoor

Everything DFOOSKING said is spot on.
Excellent videos, great shooting.

Re: Range report/video: 6mm SLR vs. 6.5 Creedmoor

Nice vid fellas, gotta love the recoil on that little Super.

Re: Range report/video: 6mm SLR vs. 6.5 Creedmoor

You bet guys, thanks for the kind words.

My videos are definitely "what you see is what you get". The editing time typically takes several times as long as the actual shooting time, so that's why it doesn't happen too often.

Now that I'm playing with HD I'll be sure to do more, probably every time I go, which is not very often these days....

PS - I got my *** handed to me in my local match today by Chuck, he was pretty much uncatchable. We'll have a 6 vs 6.5 LR rematch video at some point.

Re: Range report/video: 6mm SLR vs. 6.5 Creedmoor

great video and editing, thanx for taking the time to make us drool on your shooting spot, good shooting also.

Scotty, what bullets can be used in a 6mm SLR with a 1-9 twist barrel?

I don't know why you'd put one together with a 9 twist barrel, at least for LR shooting...

Doing so means the 105 hybrid and 115dtac are not an option. You need at least 1-8 for them, with a 1-7.5 or 1-7.7 being even better.

Great video and terrific shooting. Impressive rifles also.
I particularly liked the side-by-side shooting and simultaneous perspectives.
Thanks for taking the time to make the videos.
Oh yeah, also loved the straightforward presentation. No music, glitter, with tight editing.
Just the facts. Great stuff!

This. A 1:9 would be seriously handicapping in the wind past 500 or so. Pretty much everything that applies to a .243 applies to the 6SLR.

Glad you guys are liking the video.
