I just purchased a spr awhile back and the rifle shoots 168 and 175 smk's very well 3/4 and under, but can't seem to get the155 scenars to shoot under 1 3/4. I have tryed different seating depths and charges of varget, now I have loaded up some with R-15 can I really expect to get the same results as the smk's with a different powder or should I hang it up.

Your barrel may not like 155s. My barrel loves them, 47 varget and mine hammer at 2900fps.

It's quite possible you're chasing your tail. You may give it a short go with different powders but I've been down that rabbit hole.

I've also been surprised by some bullets that came alive with a different choice in powder but more often than not, especially with the 308 and 155-180 grain bullets if Varget isn't working it's a good bet that you won't be blown away by anything else either.

Just one man's experience in 5 years(not a lifetime, but enough to recognize patterns) of precision loading.

Yep, if he's done his due diligence with the Scenars, time to try the 2156 SMKs, or move onto something else.

It's just the way of the gun.

Some times the 155s don't shoot well unless you get them up to 2950 fps.

In my gun this is 47.8 gr Varget in Win cases,

However, there is another node down near 2650 fps at 43.6gr Varget.

Maybe I'll try bumping the charge up. Only went up to 46gr with no signs of pressure.

Its a 1 in 12 (stock fn spr a1) ...you may have been asking poison about his rifle

Re: 155 scenar's. Beating a dead horse?

47 to 47.8 of varget (Win brass)has worked well in my FN.

IMR 3031 45g Win brass 155 gn. has shot extremely well.

Work up slowly and be safe.

For some reason I couldn't get them to work all that well out of my wife's rifle using Varget. I tried them with IMR 8208 XBR and they did fine.. I couldn't get them to the "Magic 2900 fps" without pressure signs but I got them darn close. (She is running a 20" Bartlein .299/.308 1:10).
