Gent's,

I'm pondering getting one of these as, I don't have a short barrel carbine in .308. All of my gas guns are wearing 20" or longer barrels...thoughts and/or suggestions on other options? I'm not looking to invest a lot of coin - so, KAC, LMT, and LWRC are not options. Maybe Armalite, RRA, SIG, others?

Thanks!

Re: DPMS .308 Recon Carbine

I don't have that exact model but I have the predecessor to the rifle. I have a DPMS 308 AP4 with a 16" barrel. I find it to be a nice shooting shorty 308 that is very accurate on steel out to 600 yards and probably further but that is the farthest I have taken it. For the money I think it is a nice rifle. I would put a Geissele Trigger on it and move out. You have a nice shooting rifle for decent money. They have been making the SASS's for years and DPMS knows how to make rifles. There are nicer ones but then again they have higher price tags and although you have mentioned some high quality rifles, I am sure that this rifle will hang with them in a steel shooting contest.

Agreed. I don't have your model but I have the Oracle. It shoots MOA out to 400 which is the furthest I've taken it.

Still a bit heavier than my 223 but a nice shooter and I like shooting the heavier projectiles.

I almost got one of these before I went hog wild on my LMT... IMO, if you can get it for around 1299.99 / 1399.99 TOPS, is one of the best bang for your buck .308's on the market.... and just cross your fingers that you get a really nice shooting barrel on it.

Dam that looks nice...thanks for the feedback. Well, I went to the FFL earlier and checked out the Recon - it looks really well put together w/an excellent finish. I'm planning to go back next weekend to purchase that bad boy.

Cheers,

What are you doing with it that makes 4" of barrel and @ 1.5#s critical?

Good luck
