Archery season is here for some of us (9/1 in ky), and not far behind for others. Figured I would start a thread for everyone to post their success and failures. Isaac may keep us down this weekend, but I plan to get out at least for a little bit. Hopefully pictures to follow.

Re: 2013 Archery Season Thread

It starts here in Texas the 29th of September 2012!! I ended up going to the bow shop and shot the latest greatest bows. Long story short, picked up a new bow. I ended up selling my 07 Drenalin to absorb some of the money loss.
2012 Mathews Z7 Extreme
Spot Hogg 7DP about to change to a Tommy Hogg
Rip Cord Code Red
Beman ICS 340 Speed

Re: 2013 Archery Season Thread

Fixed is actually 2012-2013 here. 9/1/12-1/21/13.

I am also shooting a Z7 this season.

Re: 2013 Archery Season Thread

Two more weeks to wait here in WI. Bow opener is Sept. 15th. I have been waiting and preparing all year for this season. I will be hunting some newly accuired property. I will be shooting my Mathews Switchback XT. My vacation for this year will consist of a the first full week of November living in my treestands. Here is one I may have to take if he gives me the chance. More pics/stories to come hopefully. Good luck to all all the stick shooters out there and shoot straight!

Re: 2013 Archery Season Thread

Very nice looking bow. Just got me a heli-m and am really digging the z7 extreme in all black. I also like the mixed black and camo you have there. Get after it!!!!

Re: 2013 Archery Season Thread

Would it be considered a failure if I threw my buddy a arrow the other day, hit my bow, and split the limb? Yup it was one of those days...

Re: 2013 Archery Season Thread

Oct. 1 here in Illinois. Can't wait to get after em. I have every Thursday and Friday off from mid Oct. through the end of Nov.

Re: 2013 Archery Season Thread

Still a month away here. I will be ready for some cooler weather and hunting.

Re: 2012-2013 Archery Season Thread

Have this one on the list. Hopefully the big boys start showing up soon!
FirstdecentoneSeptbuck.jpg

First practice session in a couple months. Gotta get it dialed in. (mostly me, lol) 50yrds running Carbon Express Mayham and Carbon Force.

Z7 here as well, 29.5, 70lb (68 or 9 actual), 293 to 298fps pending shaft.
Last years buck was shot at 15yrds, just like taking it out to see how it all flys and drops.

Re: 2012-2013 Archery Season Thread

Sat for 4 hours this morning it was miserable. Was 85deg at 9:00 and over 90% humidity. Didn't expect much and i saw less. It felt good to get in a stand though.

Re: 2012-2013 Archery Season Thread

Our season kicks in on 10/6, was doing last minute stand adjustments/brush clearing and ran up 3 huge does! Been a 12 and 16 spotted just down the hill

Re: 2013 Archery Season Thread

First year archery season for me. First day out saw six doe and pushed out a herd of elk. Pickings are slim up here in Oregon so that's a great day.

Re: 2013 Archery Season Thread

Got this guy yesterday on the season opener. I had 3 decent bucks walk up and he was the biggest. I have a much larger one on my property but I haven't seen him yet this season other than on the trailcam.

Re: 2013 Archery Season Thread

Im guessing you are allowed to harvest more than 1 buck in NC

Re: 2013 Archery Season Thread

Where I live I can harvest 2 bucks and 4 does so I still have 5 more tags to fill if I want. I have a much larger buck that I have been watching on the game camera for the last 2 years but I haven't seen him yet with my own two eyes so I am saving my last buck tag for him.

Good job on your first buck of the year He looks pretty good conpared to other bucka Ive seen from NC. How old do.you think he is. 3 ish?

Re: 2013 Archery Season Thread

I would say around 3. This is the buck I am hoping to see this year. This guy is a lot nicer of a buck but he is a vampire because I only got one picture of him last year on the game camera during the day.

Re: 2013 Archery Season Thread

Re: 2012-2013 Archery Season Thread

Re: 2012-2013 Archery Season Thread

Season starts Sept 29th here but probably wont get out for a few weeks after opener.

I recently picked up a GoPro cam and decided to mount it to the bow this year to see if I can get the hunt on vid.

Re: 2012-2013 Archery Season Thread

No elk yet for me . Lots of mulie does and fork horns but nothing big . Lots of whitetail too but no shooters . Plenty of cows and calves . The bulls are just firing up . Did bag a couple of spruce grouse with the Hoyt this weekend .

Re: 2012-2013 Archery Season Thread

3 hours to go and I will be on stand for the WI opener. I like the idea of the go pro camera on the bow! The picture stabilizes pretty good without much distortion during the shot. Keep us updated if you get one on film.

Re: 2012-2013 Archery Season Thread

Flounder, how far is that target you're shooting at? Does the mount come with the camera? I've been wanting to get a few bow kills on camera as well and this may be the best way of doing that short of having to carry in a camera arm.

Re: 2012-2013 Archery Season Thread

Waiting until the late season to give this guy some time to fatten up on the bumper crop of Apples we have this year. Then I'll stick him with my PSE Coyote.

That's an exceptionally nice elk!

Re: 2012-2013 Archery Season Thread

Nothing special, but I was able to get this one out of the way and get some meat in the freezer. She came into my food plot all alone. Shot her at 15 yards on the second evening of the archery season. She went about 70-80 yards. I had passed on several other does earlier in the evening which has some fawns with them.

Re: 2012-2013 Archery Season Thread

Yeah, he got a nice one, I told him "I would probably shoot it if it wandered into camp on the last day..."

took this archery bull saturday in north idaho. One tough elk; wasn't the "one shot, one kill" operation i've had in the past. Got meat in the freezer!

Nice Bull, Its all about the challenge of getting close with me. This cool spell has me itching to sit in a tree.

Re: 2012-2013 Archery Season Thread

I shot this bull in a general hint in south east wyo. On 9/14/12. 30 yard shot with a hoyt alphamax, rage 3 blade broadhead, and victory hv300 arrows. My first elk with a bow.

Re: 2012-2013 Archery Season Thread

I got this guy last weekend 9/22/12. It was total luck, I had left my pack on the mountain and when I went to get it I found this dude sneaking through the trees. I shot him at just under 20 yards with a Hoyt Alph max, he walked about 40 yards and tipped over. He is kind of a unique 6x6. He must have been injured when he was a calf because his left side antler is 1 1/2" forward on his head and he had some jacked up teeth. He looked a little British. I was able to drive the four wheeler right to him, I like "no drag" hunts

thats what i call beast mode right there...

Re: 2012-2013 Archery Season Thread

He's not a monster buck but he's the best buck I've killed with a bow. At 25 yards on the ground without a blind or anything else to hide behind it was pretty exciting! That's my favorite way to hunt anything. The Reflex and the 3 blade Rage did a number on him.

Man that rage opened a hole. I bet that blood trail was easy to follow.
