KRG Whiskey 3 or AICS 1.5 w/Viper Skins for 700 LA

Re: KRG Whiskey 3 or AICS 1.5 w/Viper Skins for 700 LA

I honestly don't know, I had my scope set up from the last time I was shooting at 325 yards and never returned to zero when I was done. I really need to set my turrets to zero on the Nightforce.

The KRG is 80% aluminum. The modularity of using magpul MOE rails was lost on me at first, but It's growing on me.

I can't speak for the new slimmer grip size, I'm glad I got a gen 2 since the grip feels like an perfected McMillan A4. Its a pistol grip thumbhole hybrid: the benefit of having a grip almost entirely unobstructed by the supporting material to the rest of the stock, with enough 'shelf' space to ride your thumb along the sides.

I never liked thumbhole stocks since I felt i had to pull my hand 'out' before i could cycle the bolt, not so with the W3. Its roomy enough to be comfortable at any position and lines my hand up to the trigger in a way that I always wanted.

The fit and finish is at a NASA level as far as gun parts are concerned. The mag release is just right IMHO in size/shape.

I'm also a fan of flush cups, and therefore have slings with that form of QD hardware, not a good match with AICS since they use the HK type loops. Thats personal but was always a big hangup for me taking the AI route.

Downside is the 80% aluminum is 99% of the weight. The cheekpiece is on the small side, but I believe its damn near identical in shape to that on the AICS.

Obviously, I like it but did my best job of trying to explain why.

Yeah we're building the next Mars Rover, haha. Seriously though we try to maintain a high level of quality throughout the stock, from design through fit and finish and presentation and there's always room for improvement and we keep working on it.

The Whiskey-3 has the polymer grip panels and cheek rest, and has a couple steel parts like the lower spar and some pieces of the LOP system.

Thanks,
Justin

Ive owned 2 AICS, upgraded both with Viperskins because I wasnt a fan of the grip/trigger relationship. I do like the AICS now with the pistol grips, but have recently sold one and am waiting on delivery of a W3. Looking forward to getting behind one and trying something different

You really need to get behind both stocks as they have a totally different "feel" to them. I hate the grip to trigger relationship of the AICS and the thumbhole stock, I can never get comfortable.

It's too bad, as I believe the AI is one of the best actions on the market.

I have 3 of the Whiskey 3's, a Sako TRG and many different fiberglass stocks. I have shot or been behind about every chassis system on the market at the matches I attend.

The modularity and easy adjustability of the W3C is without peer, I use the adjustable LOP a lot during matches, as I have different scope eye-relief while prone, sitting/kneeling, standing and barricade positions.

I also love the hand/thumb position and grip feel/angle of the bigger grip, I haven't handled the new smaller grip, but I'm sure it will be good for people w/ smaller hands.

I agree 100% with what Hellbender has said. W3 is very versatile and the most comfortable chassis I've been behind. Its fast and easy to adjust.
