Rifle Scopes Scope Centerline to Bore distance.

Re: Scope Centerline to Bore distance.

Assuming a rem 700 type action, take a ruler and eyeball the distance from the little vent hole in front of your ejection port to the gap between the top and bottom half of your rings

Re: Scope Centerline to Bore distance.

Scope Diameter:
1.00"
30mm = 1.182"
M-770 Bolt Diameter = .700"

Scope diameter/2 + bolt diameter/2 + gap dimension between bottom of scope and top of bolt.

ie
1" scope diameter:

.500 + .350 + X = Scope/Bore dimension.

So, just remember .850" or .941" if you have a 30mm scope then add the gap dimension.

Re: Scope Centerline to Bore distance.

No math needed. Done it the way below for years and works fine for ballistic programs. Vent hole/top of stock to center of windage knob.

For past 100 yards being off a 1/4" won't mean much. It's only when you are shooting inside about 20 yards that there will be a big difference and you need to be as accurate as possible.

Re: Scope Centerline to Bore distance.

Well, if your scope has a left/right index hash mark on it and the scope is mounted, you can simply reference the distance between index mark on the scope and the action.

Re: Scope Centerline to Bore distance.

If your baseline zero is 100 yds, and you have an error of measurement of 1/8" (it would be difficult to err larger, no matter how crude the measure) then your error compared to the trayectory output is only 1/8" at 200 yds, and 9/8" at 1000 yds.

No ballistic program has this accuracy in the real world, so don't sweat it..
