Anyone know much about this firearm or have some trigger time with it?

I'm trying to decide between a scar and some of the other piston driven rifles out there (ACR, XCR-L, RRA PDS)

Re: Robinson Arms XCR-L

I talked to him at SHOT about a rifle on T&E, he seemed like a really nice guy and they handeled well. Unfortuately, i have not shot one. The best piston gun for the money seems to be the ruger, but I'm not convinced i need a piston gun as GI works so well.

Re: Robinson Arms XCR-L

My friend has one, we have shot it at the range a bit.(16 inch)
The thing is bad ass, light weight and soft recoil, my 8 year old had no problem keeping 3 round bursts "on paper" at about 50 yards. The bolt release is sweet with mag changes. We never shot for groups, just engaged man-size targets as rapidly as we could for fun. Flawless for the hundred or so we shot through it-he sent me a pic a few days later of a hog he dropped at a full-speed run out on his farm with the XCR. One shot-one kill. It is currently on my short list.

Re: Robinson Arms XCR-L

Bolt release is the one thing I didn't get about the SCAR. God only knows why the left it the way the AR15 has always had it. That and the reciprocating charging handle is what the ACR has going for it.

Re: Robinson Arms XCR-L

ACR is a boat anchor. Youtube has some video on Robinson booth at the last shotshow. it's done by that nutnfancy guy and may give you a closer look. never walked in gun store an ever seen a robinson rifle.

Re: Robinson Arms XCR-L

I have a decent amount of trigger time behind one and was overall impressed. Good trigger and accurate. However, the one I shot had a visible gap between the upper and lower. So much so that you could clearly sunlight shinning through the gap. So far Robinson has failed to respond to my emails about the gap being so large. As of right now, I am not impressed by their customer service, which is a shame because they make a very good rifle.

Re: Robinson Arms XCR-L

I have one.
I love the rifle.
I hate the company.
I hate the owner.
I hate their terrible customer service.
and I hate their terrible customer service (bears repeating).

Re: Robinson Arms XCR-L

Customer service can be a deal breaker.

Does anyone know of any other gas piston AR style rifles that are like the RRA, PDS, XCR, and ACR? I just want to make sure I cover all basis before I make a purchase.

Re: Robinson Arms XCR-L

smschultz has it right.

I've shot several, they are big in Canada because unlike the AR-15 they have zero restrictions on them.

The 7.62x39 had some serious jams that I saw, but the .223s have performed well.

Personally I find the XCR front heavy, and prefer my Tavor

Suppressed XCR 7.5" Micro/ACR-Stock in the Desert

New Addition to the Cartmann Family. XCR 7.5" Micro, 5.56 barrel, with EoTech, ACR Stock, YHM SS 556 Phantom Silencer. SureFire M600, and Troy BUIS's. Both mother and baby are doing fine.

Re: Robinson Arms XCR-L

cartmann any comments about quality, balance and fit (i.e., upper and lower)? does the cocking lever on left side move each time weapon is fired or remain stationary? folding stock lock up tight?

Well where do I start? How about from the beginning:

- Bought the Rifle new in 2007.

- I love the ergos. Charging handle is in the correct place and controls is in the same place as an AR (which for me is a good thing).

- one piece upper is a nice touch

- quick barrel change is a nice feature (allen wrench).

- Adjustable gas system is an awesome feature (5 settings)!

- AK type action is simple with big parts, big oprod, big bolt lugs, etc.

- swapping calibers (using the same upper) is easy and takes less than 2 minutes. All you do is use an allen bolt to swap the barrel, and then swap the bolt (just the head) and put in mag.

- Charging Handle is non-recpiprocating

- Hated the balance of my original gun, but that's only because it shipped with a 16" HBAR Barrel. With a 14.5" Light Barrel, the XCR actually feels pretty good, and not much different than my 11" SBR

- Hated the older trigger that came with rifle from the factory. It was not only heavy, but very inconsistent. However, I replaced it with the New Trigger and the new trigger is so much better! Very consistent, and much lighter, if I had to guess, it's about 3 lbs for the 2nd stage. All rifles now are shipped with the new trigger.

- Also had problems with LPS with the old trigger, but have not had this problem with the new trigger.

- Tool-less gas adjuster is nice, but be careful! If you adjust it, make sure it is properly seated or it will launch and be lost forever.

- Ace Style folding Butt Stock that came with the rifle was not bad, but did not work too good with an ACOG as it was too low, so I could not get a proper cheekweld. However, it was not bad with a red dot.

- 7.62x39 Kit is nice! I can shoot cheap commie rounds if I wanted to.

- The Stock I have on there makes the XCR my favorite Rifle. It's an ACR stock, but works with the XCR only because of the Special EZED Adapter I purchased from a member on the XCR Forum. The adapters are all sold out, but a 2nd Run of these special adapters is in the works.

- Stock Folds, any gun with a folding stock is an awesome gun.

- Customer Service is not Ideal. I personally never had problems with Rob Arms customer service in the old days, that's because I only dealt with their old customer service rep, her name was Tera and she was superb, but she is no longer with the company. As for now, I try not to talk to RobArms at all, they have a very bad history when it comes to customer service.. and this is not a secret, you can see the complaints and experiences of others on the XCR forums. If I need part now, I use a guy named Kermit (on the XCR Forums), he was the one that got my Micro upper about 5 months ago.

- All my kits/barrels works, and since the trigger upgrade, I have not had any issues. Because of the Micro Upper, the XCR is now my favorite off hand shooter.

Summary: I really like the Design. It's a real piston gun designed from the ground up to run a piston, and not like a gimmicky DI gun where a piston was added. The Charging Handle is where it should be, it has one of the best triggers ever on a Factory gun, it has an adjustable gas system, and a quick change barrel system.
