Im very new to my gun, remington 700 5R 26" stainless barrel. It has the typical internal mag that holds like 3 rounds of 300 winmag.
Id like to modify it to have a removable magazine.
Can anyone stear me in the right direction to find the parts to do this?
thanks, mike

If you get this type of bottom metal, you'll still need to pay a gunsmith to inlet the stock. For a "drop-in" type fit, you'll need to go with HS Precision: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=6867/Product/REMINGTON-700-DETACHABLE-MAGAZINE

I wouldn't recommend going the HS precision route. Instead, consider upgrading to a manners mini-chassis (better stock and DBM system with no need to bed rifle) or give GAP a call and ask them if they can inlet and install a Surgeon LA DBM system for you. IT IS WORTH IT just to chuck up the money and do it right the first time.

Wow a lot to consider guys, I am very new to these bolt guns,
here is some info ffrom when I bought the gun, does this type of stock set up make it more or less difficult?

Remington 700 SS 5R Mil-Spec .300 Win. Mag. for sale every round down This rifle has been blue-printed by a very competent gunsmith and includes a Muscle Break from Center Shot Rifles, Nightforce 20 moa picatinny rail, Badger Ordnance recoil lug and has been bedded with Marine-Tex by the same competent gunsmith. This rifle is a 1/2 moa shooter with 210 Bergers

Re: box mag for rem 700

wow that is really cool. I really appreciate that lead buddy.
To me the whole thing is a bit of a mystery because whatever you buy your stuck with the magazines that its compatiable with.
So that is where the confusion takes place.
In my case, I want to be able to run a 10 round mag and I have yet to figure out what all brands of mags/floorplates will allow me to do this. mike

Re: box mag for rem 700

If you are on a budget I would suggest looking at bottom metal from Badger, Surgeon, HS Precision etc. I ended up opting to go up to the AICS chassis because I was going to swap out stocks on my AAC-SD to begin with.

There are other excellent chassis out there such as the XLR, McRee, Manners mini-chassis. I would look into those as well.

Re: box mag for rem 700

Got my DBM from CDI Precision and it is quite nice. Had a machinist friend inlet the stock (B&C #5) and have had zero issues with feeding or anything else for that matter. Rifle is a 700 LTR in .308.

Re: box mag for rem 700

how big of a deal is this inletting.
I dont fully understand what it is.
Are there any issues that make it more or less complicated on my stock type or for that matter, does my stock type make it more or less benefitial to us a certain type of floor plate and box mag?
Its a:
Badger Ordnance recoil lug and has been bedded with Marine-Tex
HS Precision stock

Re: box mag for rem 700

Some people do it with a Dremel but IMO it's best done by a machinist with a mill. Doesn't matter much what kind of stock. I do know that CDI offers that service for a reasonable price. I would have done that had I not had a local guy help me.

Re: box mag for rem 700

Hey guys got a question about magazines.
I started out wanting to find a way to use a 10 round mag, and indeed I've heard about them here in the forums.
But the seem hard to find and illusive.
Some that I talk to speak of them with disdain and hate them and some praise them. I understand the drawbacks of the length but aside from that, what is the issue?
Finally, I'm having a hard time making sense of this. Who ALL makes a 10 round mag and who's floorplate/DBM system will it work with?
I just feel like the gun holds internally now 3 rounds of magnum load, to spend a bunch of money and go through the hoops and loops to install the DBM, I cant see going from 3 internal to sometimes as few as 3 rounds external, 5 rounds max?
Can anyone chime in on this and shed some light on the subject?
Mike

Re: box mag for rem 700

As far as I can find currently the only company offering a 10rd 300WM mag setup is Wyatt's outdoors. I think AI used to make them but I don't believe they still do.

Also I believe Wyatt's mags will only work with their Bottom metal, but I'm not 100% sure of that though, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: box mag for rem 700

AI 10 rounders are still available, just hard to find and usually back-ordered. The AI 5 rounders are great and to be able to top of at a match or change ammo if it's sorted by types is another benefit you need to look at. 10 is nice but for prone some people don't like it. To each his own I guess. For me, I would still spend the money for the five-rounders. Just $0.02
