acog-if i can find a used one at a good price
aimpoint
just a fixed 4x leupold

Re: ar optics

Vortex, new bushy 1-6x, overpriced but ??, 1-8x coming out too

Astigmatism? Insight MRDS or Razor HD dots or Meprolight

Check out the locals in your area from the Hide and try some out.....assuming peeps are willing.

for the price Vortex is tough to beat though and the PST 1-4 works well.

Re: ar optics

If 90% of your shots are going to be within 100 yards I'd go red dot sight. I've had an Eotech and an Aimpoint on my AR and I prefer the Aimpoint. It's simple, they have a reputation for being robust and reliable, and you can't beat battery life measured in years.

I've shot out to about 335 with the Aimpoint and made hits on a full size IPSC steel target with ease. If you want to enhance the ability to hit a little farther out than the first few hundred yards, a magnifier makes things easier.

The 1-4 power optics are nice too, but they are more expensive, and from what you are describing as intended purpose I'd say go with a good quality red dot.

1+ for great scope and company.

Re: ar optics

I love my ACOG but they are pricey.

Lowlight did a recent review of the Vortex Razor 1-4 that was pretty positive, but that's $$$

I'm sure a PST 1-4 would work.

Re: ar optics

I have a acog and love it but recently switched over to a 2x10-44 Vortex Viper PST Granted it is new to me but seem to really like it so far.

Re: ar optics

mlw332, theres some great options out there for the AR platform. Running older NXS 2.5-10x24 on a 16 inch 223 and 18 inch 264LBC, honestly its my favorite optic. I have used Eotechs and Aimpoints, but I personally think its hard to beat a variable, especially on an AR.

Re: ar optics

I love my ACOG for short to mid range (3-600 yds) on a 5.56 AR. The 1-4x scopes have been looking interesting though. I just haven't ever gotten to use one. You won't be disappointed if you get an ACOG. It's the only optic in your list I can vouch for.

Re: ar optics

I have 4 ACOG's ALL 4x, a TA01 a TAO1 NSN a TA31F and a TA RCOM4. If I had it to do all over they would all be either a NF 1-4X24 or a NF 2.5-10X32.

Re: ar optics

mlw332,
The 1-4x work great also look at the 1-6x like the Bushnell and the Vortex.

For speed and close range 0yds to 200yds the RED DOT sight work great but the can be hard to use at 400yds.
