questions for you all. was in at the local wal mart the other night and they had a Rem 700 chambered in 7mm Mag. i assume its an ADL model since it did not have a mag plate. question i had was is this gun any diffrent than a Rem 700 ADL the cabelas carries? reason i asked is the wal mart one was $325. been wanting a bigger caliber gun for a while to mess around with a little long range shooting 500+
jsut thought id ask you all and get your opinions

Re: question on a Rem 700??

Wal-Mart does so much volume that they do get a better price on their products. I have heard rumors that manufacturers do provide a cheaper product for Wal-Mart so that they can have the cheaper price. I couldn't say for 100% that this is the case, but with that big of a difference in price it does make a person wonder.

having some family that is pretty high up in Walmart management...

I LOT of products are made to walmart specs (lower) to keep cost down...

really shows up in things like tires, batteries, things like that...

w/ firearms, it'll be feature based.. things like no detachable mag, std triggers vs adjustable... cheaper scopes on "package" guns

Re: question on a Rem 700??

Walmart does have some things made to their specs, but those things are almost always obvious. Such as a good-year wrangler, but its a different looking tread, has a slightly different designation, one letter. Electronics, same name, one digit different model number. Gotta catch the details.

Somethings its sheer volume and the bargaining power it brings.

Concerning firearms, I highly doubt it, especially with Remington, entirely too much potential liability for much corner cutting. Maybe a non adjustable trigger, which the mark x pro is junk anyway so no loss, if they were screwing on barrels from the reject pile I suspect the internet would be overwhelmed with complaints.

Re: question on a Rem 700??

Still a cheap way to get a 700 action. Replace parts as you get the money. Personally I don't like WalMart but 325 for a base 7 mag is a good price.

Re: question on a Rem 700??

I doubt remmy makes a Walmart specific action. If its the action you're after, go for it.

They probably include crappier triggers, stocks, bottom metal, whatever they have lying around but I doubt they have a wm specific action

Re: question on a Rem 700??

I am sure its the new Remy Sportsman, the same one they sell at Bass pro and Sportsman Warehouse. Thats a great price on a 700.

Re: question on a Rem 700??

I know it's a cheaper gun being an adl model and don't know a lot aboutthe sportsman model but I figured for a project gun it would be a good start if nothing else
thinking tonight in going to go over and put it in layaway so no one else get it
another goo thing is my wife works at Wal Mart so we get a 10% discount on stuff so I'll save a little there too

Re: question on a Rem 700??

well went in tonight and checked the gun out a little more. it is a 700 for sure in 7mm mag. has a 26" barrel and was plain jane no scope no nothin. talked to a good buddy of mine on the way to the store tonight and he is going to let me use one of his Leupolds till i can get a scope for it. also going to have to get all the reloading items for it so ill jsut feed it some off the shelf stuff in it for a while.

Re: question on a Rem 700??

$325 is what you would pay for an old beat up 700 to send in to your gunsmith to take everything off and throw in the trash. Then true lap screw on a Krieger and pin down a jewel inlet a manners or McMillan.. and your ready to go.. sounds like a good deal. is it in the black stock?? if so save up and put in an XLR industries chassie . it should make a big difference in the accuracy.

Re: question on a Rem 700??

yea its got a cheapo black syn stock on it.
trigger will be first and stock second.

Re: question on a Rem 700??

I recently bought one of these in a 300 WM from walmart. It had the x mark pro trigger which isnt "that" bad.
After reading up on tuning it I was able to get it down to 2.5 pounds in an hour or so while passing all of the safety checks I had ever heard of. (safety didnt work quite right at 2 lbs or under though) I might get a timney but at 2.5 lbs the stock trigger isnt bad at all. Planning on an XLR chassis for it soon.

Re: question on a Rem 700??

Can WM order specific guns like for instance the 700 aac-sd tactical?
got one from Budsgunshop for $640~...... just wasnt sure if they ordered things like that.
