Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 grips (new pics)

I decided to go ahead and build a set of grips for my 1911. It's not the first set that I have built. The base wood on these is Wenge. It is a nice solid wood that provides a stable base for the burled walnut. the skull is quilted maple.

It just has its first coat of oil on it now so it will be about a week before they are all done.

Very nice work. I don't have steady enough hands to do that. As an aside, I just bought some Rattlesnake skin grips and got them in the mail yesterday. I have never moved away from factory grips before. They definitely give some personality to the gun.

I'm working on a few more ill have pics of those as well.

I like the stippling and checkering as well an have done several that way. but I love to see the wood grain so most of mine don't have the stippling
