I'm fairly new to 1911's, and have tried searching for this and can't find a definitive answer.

When i slowly draw the slide back on my new SIG, with an empty magazine inserted, the slide will often catch on the takedown notch. Usually a slight bump will free the slide.

A couple of things I have noticed comparing this gun to my other 1911, a Kimber:

The slide is much easier to pull back on the SIG, lighter spring?

There is a more pronounced bump when the top of the magazine reaches the magazine release button when inserting

I have tried different magazines, including Wilson Combat and Ed Browns, they all do this.

Is this anything to worry about? Should I replace the spring with a heavier one?

    Thanks in advance

An empty magazine is suppose to apply upward pressure to the Slide Stop. Therefore the Slide Stop tab is going to drag across the disassembly notch. I don't think you have a problem there.

I've not shot it yet. I've been very pleased with the fit of the pistol, and it seems well made. Based on the above, I'm going to start shooting it. When I manually operate the slide it won't catch unless I drag it very slowly over the notch. I don't think it will catch in normal operation.

    Will advise of progress

A friend of mine has a sig 1911, that the slide doesn't feel near as tight as either of my kimbers. I have a Custom TLE II and it has a 16lb spring in it (same as the sig government size) and a pro carry, the pro has a 20lb spring so it definitely is more stiff.
