Simple question, I am looking to build a 300 win. Probably gonna use a McMillan stock with a Hart barrel or something similar..What would be the best Custom action for the money? I have seen surgeon actions...they look good..Would it be easier or better to get a barreled action?

Re: 300 win build

Surgeons are fantastic, but at almost $1400, they are pricey. Defiance, BigHorn both make great stuff as well. If you have a doner Rem 700 LA reciever, you can just true and blue it and it will also be good. Its all up to you on action, but you can never go wrong with a Surgeon, they tend to hold their resale value better than any other action

Re: 300 win build

Stiller makes a good action also. I have both a Surgeon and a Stiller, I going to try a Bighorn action next. Any of them are a great starting point. Kreiger, Rock Creek, Bartlein and or Obermeyer are in my opinion, much better barrels.

Re: 300 win build

Stiller, Surgeon, etc.

Most all of the custom actions are going to be good. Just depends on your budget. I run the Surgeon and I absolutely love it!

Re: 300 win build

anybody use of seeing McMillan actions? I see they have acontrolled feed with three position saftey . surgeon will probably he the next build..thx

Re: 300 win build

I really like my Stiller action. I'm sure it would be a great starting point, as would the others' mentioned.

Re: 300 win build

After looking at stiller prices and products I think that would be a better bargain plus a lot of people like them:)
