SH,

I am a civilian with no military service. I have been a hunter and shooter for years. I am an x college athlete in good shape, not triathlon shape but 4 days a week in the gym and can step out and run 8-10 miles shape. I am a massive long range junky and am getting pretty competent yet have a lot to learn in long range. As an competitor I want to test my skills and to learn and am looking for a good competition for civilians that will combine endurance and shooting that would revolve around bolt gun shooting. None of this DM shooting heavy 556 junk. Love the DM's just don't have that kind of weapon.

Any advice? I hear there are some in UT and NC. I don't mind gettin my ass kicked because I like to learn and me and my buddy that would go to these things are wild men and we like challenges.

Thanks!

You might also be interested in the run-n-gun matches in Douglas, Wyoming. I think they mostly walk though.

come shoot the PTS team match in TN in October. we have plenty of hills you can run up and down while you're waiting your turn.

ask knight and ssatt. maybe they'll make a tough man division so you'll have some company.

Competition Dynamics. They set the bar this year IMHO.

Their Team Challenge is in Late October (see their website) and has moderate movement on the clock - Not as physically intense as their 24SAC, but fun and challenging, in unconventional terrain/shooting environments. You'll learn a lot and have a blast.

Re: First Long Range Civilian Marksmanship Comp?

Sir - I'm still new to precision rifle and shot my first matches this summer. My suggestion: Just shoot it! I've shot a few local 600 yard matches and one "tactical" match in Douglas, WY. I learned something(s) from each of them. I'd first check to see what is available in your area before committing to long-distance travel. Good luck!
