Hey guys, i picked up a winchester model 70 in 270 wsm and tried it out. I got .323" groups at 100 yards. With a pos scope that I just trew on there, the original stock, and off of a bipod with factory ammo. I thought i just got lucky so i shot again. It did about the same thing. Let my buddy shoot it, he got a .375" group. Think I should build it or leave it alone?

Shoot out the barrel, then make it a 7WSM. Shouldn't take long

Re: Winchester model 70

Im planning on keeping it. I traded a remington 700 sps tactical in .223 for it. Im not in it too much. Im going on some hunts in wyoming this year and it will probably serve me well for that.

Re: Winchester model 70

Sounds like a good trade. Is it a push feed or a control feed? Also dont forget to work out your dope for Wyoming. Some places its 6000+ feet

Re: Winchester model 70

Why would you do anything to that gun?! Guys spend thousands of dollars and massive amounts of time on these ultra cool precision rigs and are searching for the results your getting. They might be able to hang in out further, but could also anchor a small ship. Your getting great groups at 9 ish pounds built.

Go buy 10 boxes of the same factory ammo. See if the gun is still performing well out at 200, 300, and so on. Some guns are great at 100, but the groups fall off at some point. So for hunting if the gun does great out to a certain point, but beyond that it's iffy, keep your shots inside what the gun will do.

If anything, put some better glass on it. That won't change how it shoots, jut how well it will track, what you can see, and how well it will hold up.

... Or I'll IM you my FFL info and an address to ship it.

I love my M70. It's a 7mm RM and has been a great gun.

Re: Winchester model 70

I agree with Clickbang.

I was a little leery about the M70 that I traded for about a year ago in 243 wssm. It took about 20 rounds to tune up a load and now it is my favorite gun to shoot and probably the most accurate.

Good luck and welcome to the Winchester club.
