Re: S&W M&P Shield

I have a compact in the normal M&P. I carry it now and like it but it is alittle fat on my hip.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

Very nice little pistol. Much easier to shoot than the small Kahr or G26.

The shield isn't a ton thinner, but it is a little bit and sometimes that's enough.

I'd take pictures next to my compact but if you google it there are a bunch out there already.

Everybody wants one.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

If it's anything like the rest of the M&P line it's good to go.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

I have a Shield in 40. So far I love it. I have put approx 150 rds thru it with no malfunctions. Recoil is similar to a glock 27. I have always been a glock man but this may become my everyday carry if I can find an IWB holster I like. Only thing I have found is that the trigger seems to break quicker than I'm use to with my glocks. Not a big deal. The trigger in the Shields seems to be crisper than the standard M&P's. But given the chance I may drop and APEX trigger in it. We were hitting steel Ivans at 70 yrds all day long with it. I think Smith hit a home run.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

Have one in 9mm. Got it right after the NRA show in STL. Very happy with the purchase. Any recommendations on holsters and best (cheapest) place to get more magazines?

Re: S&W M&P Shield

I have one in 9mm also. I really love it for concealed carry also.

I almost feel guilty telling people how much I like it though, because these damn shields seem to be as rare as frickin unicorn tears!!

As far as concealed carry I really like the sticky holster, I got mine from tacticalsupplier.com I will see if I can find the bag for what size it is. The Sticky holster is bad ass though, and it is sticky. The worst complaint is getting the pistol back into though. For concealed carry though, getting it back into the holster is alot less of a concern as ease of access, speed of draw, and comfort/concealment during carry.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

Got a 40 cal last week. 200 plus rounds thru it so far w/o any issues, TMJ and Gold Dots. Slim, light, easy to carry. Recoil is a little more than the Glock 26 I normally carry, but I can do a 5 and 1 drill under 3 seconds with it. So far, I like it a lot.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

I've had one almost 2 months now. I have 1250 rounds thru it. Really love it. Sold my Kahr PM9 the same week I got it, because I love it so much more than the Kahr.

I've been chasing a 2nd one now for almost 2 months too. Great gun. Recoil is like a much larger gun.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

Check out the remora holster for this. Should pair nicely in terms of finding that really comfortable light weight rig.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

I love my Shield in .40. Shoots nice and is easy to carry.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

Really been thinking about one of these.
Been carrying a .45 for years and while it is fine during the cooler months (because of wearing more/thicker clothing), the summer months beg for a smaller/lighter pistol.

This might just be what the doctor ordered.

I was about sold on a Kahr, until I shot my brother-in-law's Kahr .40 S&W. It was the most un-pleasurable pistol I had ever shot. I had never shot a pistol that was actually painful.

I'm glad I saw these Shields on TV the other night because I didn't know that they even existed and the Kel-Tec's reputation scared me a little.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

Well, I found my second one a week ago. Put 450 rounds thru it over two range trips. I really like the platform
smile.gif

So, I have 1700 rounds thru both of them (total) in 2.5 months.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

can anyone take a picture of the safety? I was told it is counter sunk into the grip so it is difficult to "accidentally" hit. I really would like to buy one of these but im not too thrilled on the safety but if it is not sticking out from the grip, then it shouldn't be a problem.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

Anyone looking at these and loves .45 (heck even if you don't) I strongly suggest you take a look at the Springfield XDS. My fav carry piece currently.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

oh yea that looks flush with the grip. I guess i will just have to get one. Thanks for the pictures, i really appreciate it. Those look like they would be real comfortable to wear.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

Cool pistols.

Does anyone have an officers/compact 1911 to take a picture next to so I can see the size difference?

I got to check out an XD S 45 the other day, want to see a shield 9 or 40 also. No local shops have one, if they do get one it sells before I see it.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

I have been a Glock fan since they came to America in 1989. I have tried just about every decent pistol out there since then trying to find one that I trust as much as my Glocks. Mainly because of my buddies' recommendations. Every one of the others let me down in some way. I got my Shield 9mm 4 days after they were released and so far have not looked back. I don't count rounds but I will say that the little gun has fired a couple hundred rounds flawlessly. I have shot cheap plinking ammo. +P defense ammo and everything in between. I have purposely limp wristed it and no matter what I have done it keeps running. It is now my EDC in a supertuck clone holster. I have not sold my Glocks but this Shield has earned it's place for summer carry. Very accurate and easy to shoot even with the short sight radius.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

I picked up one in .40 but have to send it back to s&w. No matter what mag I use every time I fire a shot the mag unseats. I have checked my grip to see if I was hitting the mag release and ever shot it sigle handed and it still does it. I have put 200 rounds down it thinking it might need a break in period.
Has anyone else had this problem as its the first problem I have seen in the shield line up.

Mac

Re: S&W M&P Shield

How well do you guys like the .40 edition? How is recoil on it? I am in the market for one and I have been able to find a 9mm edition I have found a few .40 but I am not sure with the small frame how well I would like the .40. I also own a glock 23 which I love .40 in.

They came in before that; around 1984 I think.

I just picked up a .40 S&W Shield....Felt recoil is not bad but the muzzle flip seem extreme and impossible to get a double tap off even if you could get the trigger to reset and pull it that fast.

More range time is needed and at lesser ranges I have been shooting. I also have a Ruger LC9 and even after spring and trigger upgrades it still has a hell of a muzzle flip to it.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

Why are these so hard to find? Does anyone have any idea when supply will catch up to demand? Come on S&W...step it up!

Re: S&W M&P Shield

I am not sure why they are so hard other then they are pretty new still. But after looking for one a lot of guns are hard to come by now including the XDs which I decided to go with. You can catch shields on Gunbroker but you will def pay for them. Most are going for $100+ retail so be prepared.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

Glock 26 is easier to find and easier to refine. M&P triggers =
bleeeccchh. Good guns, better alternatives available. JMO

Re: S&W M&P Shield

I bought one in 9mm, it shoots well. It has a safety that I don't even notce. Looks like a slide lock and works well. I only use it to unload the gun. Recoil very tolerable. I very much like it.

Reason they are hard to find, is Springfild , Glock and Smith should have made these 5 years ago and there would nt be so many KAHRS. I detest those eastern block looking hunk of unfinished metal Kahrs. But to each his own, and the market says a single stack plastic gun is good to go.

Yes but also harder to conceal. Also FYI the Shield has a new trigger that is a huge improvement over the other M&P's. Have you shot the Shield or is this opinion based on hearsay?

Haven't shot a Shield before, have you?

And you probably haven't tried the aftermarket Apex trigger kit for the Shield either, hmm?

Glocks are great, but the Shield is a serious sub-compact Glock killer. Thinner, easier to handle, has a safety, better trigger (that can also be upgraded), and includes an extended magazine from the factory. Oh, and it's cheaper.

The only limiting factor on the Shield is how many S&W can pump out each week.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

I sold my KT PMR today...and an hour later a gun shop calls to tell me that my shield arrived. I just started researching shields last week and was calling around to be placed on a waiting list. This shop got in a few shields and I went with the 9mm shield. I haven't shot it yet, but it's very nice. I have a KT PF9 and the shield is the same length. Shield is a little taller than PF9 and it has one more round compared to the PF9.

I think I'm going to really like the shield as it fits my hands better than the PF9 and the build quality is by far better.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

Well, I am not tossing in the towel on my S&W .40 Shield but I did order a CZ 2075 Rami DA/SA Sub Compact.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

Well, I'm in.
I made the mistake of stopping by my local hardware store, who had just had a two day visit from the traveling gun truck, for lack of knowing what the real name is. The store purchased a handful of pistols at the show price and it was only able to get one Shield.
I had held the pistol in the past, MM509 has told me nothing but good things about it, so after comparing it to about 5 other 9mm's that day I decided to swipe the plastic. My paperwork should be clear on or before Tuesday.

Oh so wrong. Shield has an all new trigger. Reset is well defined and there is no mush. Plus there is only one trigger instead of that trigger in a trigger that I never liked on a Glock.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

i have had my shield9 since they came out, i love it too. One gun I will never sell. I got the desantis insider which is a real nice deep concealment IWB, give it a try.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

I have owned my 9mm Shield for about three months. Its a keeper. DeSantis Mini Scabbard and you don't even know its there. Smith hit a homerun with this one for CCW. Great trigger for what it is.
Still keep the G26, G19 and G17 as I have had Glocks since the 80's.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

I've been on the waiting list for 8 weeks at LGS. May make a nice Christmas present for myself.

Re: S&W M&P Shield

Great little piece I have carried it everyday since I got it two months ago. Going to ATEi soon to have some work done.
