I am trying to decide between the 75gr A-Max or the 77gr SMK to load up for some high BC, accurate, longer range, rounds for my new AR. I use cheaper 55gr FMJs for plinking and such. Anyone have a opinion based on use between the two of these?

generally speaking... SMK, polymer tips and ARs don't always go together, but there are enough factors involved that it takes serious thought... M4 feed ramps, twist rate, etc,etc... but as long as you have a faster (7) twist, I'd try the 77SMKs first

^^this, I have had better luck with the Hornady 75 bthp, the 75 amax wont shoot from the mag (but shoots bugholes when fed singly from my Ar).

Good choice. Not sure what your barrel specs are but I just worked a load up for my woa service rifle upper.
. 75hpbt 24.5gr varget 2.255. Definitely start low though.

I'd start around 23.5 and go from there.

I got some great results at 400 yards with the 69 smk loaded with 26 grains of varget out of a 16" bushmaster. 3.5" 4 shot group with the first one I held over the target. I haven't tried any 77gr smks since the 69 grain shot so good.

I use both at 300 rapid fire in across the course matches and cannot tell the difference, at 600 yds the scores are within 3 points of each other. 24.5 gr of varget in winchester brass at mag length, try them out and see which one your rifle and wallet prefers.

Due to mag length issues, I like to stay with the 55 to 63 gr Sierras. Of course, it all depends on twist.

My wylde chambered Ar loves 23.7 gr of RL15 or Varget under the 75bthp.
