Just got Charter Arms AR 7. These were the commersial version of the
AR 5 and 6 surviveal rifles for the Air Force. I've want one of these for a sence I was a kid, and that was a long time ago

. ArmaLite made them first, then Charter Arms, and now Henery makes them. Haven't got to the range to test it out. Hope to do that soon.

Re: AR 7

I live in the city and don't hunt any more. I'm disabled from heart and lung problems now. Health went south in a hurry the last three years. Three years ago, I was a little less that 6'5" and 230lbs. Strong as an Ox and almost as smart, at least that is how a friend would put it.

Now I'm still 6'5" but 193lbs and walk with the help of a cane. I had a blood clot stroke at the time of my second open heart surgery in a six month time span. Now I can't see to the right with my right eye. Can't speel very well either. All from the stroke. I do get to the range, once in a while though. The right eye has 20-10 vision straight ahead, so I punch paper as well as the best shooters I know. They can shoot very well. This little rifle won't shoot as well as my Anschut, Win 52's or Rem. 40x's. but it will be fun.

Re: AR 7

I've heard some serious claims made against the charter arms version, but I can tell you my Henry AR-7 is an amazing little bugger. I got bored one day and managed to pull a shot group a little smaller than 1.5 MOA. it took me a little while, but once you get situated, you can use it to great effect. mine preferred stingers, velocitors, and other high velocity rounds. didn't much like low or standard velocity.

Re: AR 7

barrels are supposed to worp on the early ones. Need to see when mine was made. They were made for high velocity ammo. The recoil spring is very strong on these, stronger than needed. The standard velocity and sub-sonic, don't have enough to cycle the action from what I've gathered so far.

Re: AR 7

Does Henry have any plans to bring back the Explorer, the pistol version of the AR 7 that looks like a miniature Broomhandle Mauser?

Re: AR 7

not that I've heard, but there's a charter explorer over at GunRunners for sale... www.gunrunners.com I believe is their auction site.

And a little bird told me a while back that you can trim those two recoil springs down by a loop and they'll run standards/subs. I was never bold enough to do so, besides, I like velocitors.

Re: AR 7

I found an AR7 sitting in one of my storage boxes the other day. It was produced by Survival Arms in Shelton, Conn. It had a wire stock, pistol grip and had a heat shroud over the barrel. I picked it up outside of Ft. Bragg in the late 90's at a little pawn shop far down the Yadkin 500.

The wire stock and barrel are missing, but the reciever is fully functional. I'm never going to do anything with it, so if someone could put it to use, shoot me a pm and throw me an offer.

Re: AR 7

they are nifty little units! I take one every now & again on a squirrel hunt with my little red treeing machine. The peep sight works well enough in good light to drop tree rats & kick pop cans around...

Re: AR 7

I do like these guns. Would love to get my hands on an AR-5. Here's mine. Got to love that early swirl nylon. Very retro.

Re: AR 7

I have a charter arms, when you look down the outside profile of the barrel you could swear the thing looks warped. Minute of squirrel accurate though. Functioned good with Federal bulk ammo, havent tried it with CCI standards yet.

Re: AR 7

I just sold one of these about 4 months ago.
Sold it for $50.00 with 3 mags. Glad to let a good friend have a good deal....

In the early 1980s I bought our two daughters one each for Christmas one year. They both seem to like CCI MiniMags the best.

The oldest daughter probably shot hers the most. She could consistently hit a 1" circle at 50 feet, probably 7 out of 10 times. My eyes were never that good with the open sights they come with.

I'm sure you'll enjoy your AR-7 very much and for a very long time.

Good luck.

Re: AR 7

Yes, the bolts are heavy so they require some decent energy to operate correctly. Mine likes CCI Velocitor but the Mini-Mags work fine, too. CHOOT'EM!
