With thousands of the original Torches sold for the last 6 years, we went to the drawing boards and designed an entirely new IR illuminator based on the "WASP" product line. The engineers spared no expense with an outstanding lens system that really reaches out and touches something!

We can tell you we listened to so many of you (and I mean MANY), who wanted a new and very special versatile system. The new Torch PRO is just that!

Drawing from many years of very successful replacement head LED's, the new Torch PRO will be available as a stand-alone head that is designed to simply screw into the ultra popular Surefire G2, 6P and C2 line of lights along with any of the Surefire pressure switches used on these lights.

To further extend the versatility of the Torch PRO, a full up unit depicted below will also be available with a standard 1" matching body housing that will be compatible with many popular light mounts out in the market place.

In the next few weeks, we will be announcing pricing and a few other nifty details including down range pics, etc. ...and no, there will be no sticker shock here.

So folks know, this will be the 2nd new TNVC product release for 2012 (1st being the Ops Core Base Jump Helmet Lanyard. http://www.tnvc.com/shop/tnvc-base-jump-lanyard/). Look for many upcoming products in the next few months.

Looks awesome, Vic. I can't wait to try one of these on hogs at night

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

I've been testing this unit now for a few nights and I am blown away by the strength of the beam, and especially the ease with which the unit may be "focused" with just one finger while on the rifle. I will have a more thorough report up, with video, once I get back from CSAT for my meeting / shoot / demo with Paul Howe and Bill Wilson, this weekend.

This is one of the best IR illuminators I've ever used.

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

    Vic,

Any info yet on pricing and availabilty of these units? I'd like to get one.

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

How does it compare to the SPIR or TAC ?

Hi ya. We should have pricing and availability in a few weeks. Thank you for the interests. This is going to be a great asset to many folks without breaking the bank or eye safety issues associated with laser based systems.

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

Its neck and neck with the SPIR. They have different attributes which make them about even.

The Torch Pro has a beam that can be focused on the fly, with one finger, from a wide flood to a small spot. In my test, with no moon, the Torch Pro allowed me to ID an IPSC plate at 500 easily, then to see it was there at 700. If you had to detect pigs or humans, 700 is no real problem for either the SPIR or the Torch Pro, and remember that I am only using 4X magnification. If I had an 8 X wasp then I am certain I could ID a hog at 700, maybe 800 with either.

The SPIR has a little more sharp-edged beam and is a little more articulate out to almost 800, but its much more work to adjust the focus. It takes two hands to grab on and turn the beam focus, so its going to be much slower, and the conrolling grip on the rifle will be compromised. I suppose one could use one hand, but the bezel is very tight, and nonetheless takes longer to focus.

The Super Tac IR....what can a guy say? It is impressive for the price, even out at 700, I could still see the beam pretty well, however, there is <span style="font-style: italic">no beam focus</span>, and at close ranges, the center spot totally washes out the reticle on my D-740, to the point where hunters were losing it, and then losing the shot if we painted them < 100 yards with the Super Tac. [ ETA: of course, they could turn the reticle brightness up on the D-740, but by that time, some of them were confused and didn't have enough training to quickly adjust to the huge amount of splashback from the Tac. One can focus the Torch Pro in an instant if the beam is too narrow and too intense, and never have to touch the reticle brightness.]

The intensity switch on the SPIR is nice, but there is not enough of a difference to allow the user not to have to focus anyway.

Please stand by, I now have pics and video of all these side by side, but as you already know editing and post-production of video clips takes a lot of time. I also have a size comparison shot of the original torch, Torch Pro, and SPIR. I will post the series of clips and vid in a much more thorough review when I get it done.

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

Looking forward to the pics and video. I have the variable focus Torch which works well with magnification and the Super Tac IR that works well with or without magnification and is VERY impressive. I'm looking for something I can use that won't wash out at closer distances but will still reach out when needed.

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

Here's a picture of the new Toch Pro next to the older ELR torch with VBF.

I have pics of the beams and video comparison of the SPIR,DBal D2, SuperTac IR and older torch now in post production. Here's a non-NV photos for the request we had for the size comparison. Hope this helps.

Here is a photo of all the illuminators I recently demoed for Paul Howe and Bill Wilson up at CSAT this past weekend:

For comparison, from left PVS-14 with 3X magnifier, M24 thermal with weapon mount (for mounting to the HELGA) then the illuminators:

LDI SPIR, Torch Pro, Old Torch ELR / VBF, and Streamlight SuperTac IR.

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

    How's it compare to a AN/PEQ-2 illuminator?

I have some previous experience with that one and also own an orig. "Torch".

The PEQ was way more impressive. I realize the PEQ is unobtanium for mere mortals, but a comparison would be helpful.

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

OK, everybody, we have a few short video clips of the new Torch Pro, up against some other IR lights, but they are being edited in post-production right now.

A longer version, professional video is being produced by Wild River Ranch, with the folks that helped us do the hog hunting video on our website. You will see lots of things in that video, no one has ever seen before!

For now, TNVC and WRR are editing some short Torch Pro clips and they will be posted in a couple more days. Thanks for your patience!

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

    <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">"...HTR707 Where's the video comparison?

I'd like to see the above with a surefire Vampire bezel type in that mix..."</span>
    </span>

FYI, IMHO, the Torch Pro kicks the Vampire light's ass so bad, it wasn't even in the running. The only three that compare to one another for range, and spread, are the Torch Pro, the SPIR, and the Super Tac IR, which, while its impressive for $91, the beam cannot focus, and its way too bright at 50 yards.

Of course, I'm just talking about stand-alone illuminators. The DBal D2 is awesome and I will own one of those.

Of course, the IR and white light is a nice feature if that's your defensive rifle, but if you need both long and short range, this is the most versatile IR illuminator on the market...at least for my uses.

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

So folks now...The first units will be sold with the body housing. At anytime needed, you can still unscrew the head of the new Torch Pro with the included body housing and place it on your G2, 6P, and C2.

In a few months we will be selling the head option only as well. Thanks.

    Vic

Smart move on the head working with SF bodys. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Victor-TNVC</div><div class="ubbcode-body">So folks now...The first units will be sold with the body housing. Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

Does the Torch work OK with the IR laser or does it have potential to wash it out?

This sounds like a really simple question that has probably been addressed, but I couldn't find it.

Good question. With the current .7mw Class 1's along with any of the restricted units, you're GTG. Thank you.

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

Thanks for everyone's good work. I had both the Super Tac and the TL-2 (non-focusing LED model) in my "shopping cart" last night.

Besides convenience, how does the Torch Pro spec. out on milliWatts?

As a separate matter (because comparison might be unfair), has anyone reviewed/tested B.E. Meyer's CIRIS 1 Watt (1000 mW) IR Illuminator? Weighing in at $1,194.67, and having the hand-held option, and also appearing to sport a 1" cylindrical battery (2, CR-123A) compartment, it may provide some serious competition for the 600-800 yd. effective-range market. But I would have to see the field-of-focus saturation comparisons. One Watt doesn't mean much if it's not efficiently deployed. Regardless, depending on your location, being able to distinguish a hog from a sleuthing human who's trying to avoid border patrol/ICE detection may be comforting to some.

The CIRIS unit is primarily intended for surveillance photography, for which an optional camera mount is available. However, a Mil. Spec. 1913 mount is also available separately for $180.65. Frankly, I speculate that there are more cost-efficient "aftermarket" options for the 1913 mount. After all, what's proprietary about a 1" diameter body?

All prices above were quoted by Lloyd Tjom, [email protected] 425-250-4023, on Wed. 08-08-12.

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

It appears that the Torch IR doesn't have te ability to turn down the intensity to prevent close range washout. Is that correct?

</div></div> We used to throw a part of our net-woven, camouflaged, body scrim over forward optics glass, etc. WWII soldiers wrote home for sheer ladies' stockings to put over their glass. It should work in reverse. The density of the weave will vary directly with the the ambient lighting conditions; i.e, the more the ambient light, the more dense the weave. No doubt, experimentation will be required, as well as carrying scrims of varying density for moving between open spaces to under dense canopy/natural concealment.

The threads on the head of a 6P are the same as a M951, but there's a plastic piece inside of many if the M951's that needs to be removed for many drop ins to work. Did you try the M951?

Better idea: How about retrofitting a photographic flash diffuser? Alternatively, would a variable polarizing filter work? If so, how would you retrofit that? Fashion a cone-shaped extension to fit over the Torch Pro's bezel?

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

Thanks for the reviews on the new Torch, it looks like a very nice unit. I was on TNVC's website when the "old" Torch was on sale, but waited too long and it looks like I missed the boat.

Now I'll be "forced" to get the new one...

    :p

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

For those who have no need for the Torch Pro stock body housing and wish to place the head on a selected Surefire G2, 6P etc. housing they currently own...The Torch Pro head only option will be available next week on our web site.

Price will be $199.00. Thank you for all the orders thus far, the unit has been very well received.

Just got it in today and initial testing is, in a word amazing! I don't have any experience with night vision, but I have to say I was a little disappointed in total darkness with my NV set up, I expected with a high quality tube I would not need any kind of assistance except maybe at distance. My initial testing with the unit has been limited to indoors, I looked down our hallway in total darkness, I could barely see the hinges and handles on some of our furniture. I turned on the torch and it was like looking at a high definition image of the dresser, definitely a nice addition to the rig. I am heading out tomorrow night to test it out and get dope with my sub-loads and to see what kind of range I can identify my target with the new set-up.
(JFComfort and I could have used it last weekend, we called in a set of eyeballs that we could not ID so we could not take a shot, I sure would have liked to have atleast been able to ID the critter, I have a feeling it was a bobcat which we cant shoot here right now anyway, but would have been nice to get a positive ID anyway.)

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

Well it rained like hell today, so by the time I got off work I had had enough rain and mud for one day...hopefully tomorrow I will make it out there and will be able to report back with some pics through the scope with and without the torch. Looking forward to putting it through its paces.

The worst drought in years and Vegas is constantly getting flooded out, especially on days when I want to go shooting! WTF

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

Short back order for about 2 days as a new batch just got complete.

Thank you for all the orders, units are flying out the TNVC doors!

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

We are heading up north this weekend to check some trail cameras and do some yote hunting. Going to run the Torch with NV monocular and the DBAL-D2 on the rifle with the clip-on unit, should be a nice set-up! Hopefully we will have some pics to post up of the carnage unleashed on the coyote population!

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

I continue to be impressed with Torch Pro. It super easy to adjust the focus. Silent to operate. Has very minimal washout at close range and really takes you out to distance if you have quality NV gear. Great product! Only upgrade I made and recommend is adding a Surefire click on/off tail cap.

Very happy you continue to be impressed with the Torch Pro. Much painstaking work went into the "details" of this unit.

We feel hands down from all the feedback we're getting, it's turning into the best all around IR LED illuminator out there.

    Thanks again for your report.

I agree that this is the best IR illuminator on the market right now. We have just accumulated 4-5 more orders and my clients are thus far, very impressed with them, as were the WRR staff when we did the prototype testing.

    More orders inbound Vic!

We DID have a slight delay on some V-Tac light mounts we were waiting on for folks who ordered the package. All those did go out today with the Torch Pro's.

With that said, as of <span style="text-decoration: underline">today</span>, we have run out Torch Pro's just for a few days. Another nice batch otw from the factory, will be here next Tuesday.

No worries, enjoy the Torch Pro. It REALLY booms out there in the IR illumniation dept. Looking forward to your review. :)

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

Fresh batch in, all in stock!

Also, I wanted to thank you for all the orders of the new Torch Pro. It's been amazing the amount of these units flying off the shelves, but not surprising as we firmly feel this is one of the best IR illuminators on the market and the constant positive feedback is reinforcing this.

What's even more interesting to note is for the first time we've been asked from many about a lens cover. We've never really heard of folks asking or using a lens covers for a flashlight, so we take this as an extreme compliment.
    smile.gif

We understand the want though, when folks first see the true quality of the lens system, it looks VERY special and one would assume it needs to be protected. While scratches and such will really not hurt the beam output, here is some info on the measurements that will assist.

The outside objective lens diameter of the Torch Pro is 1.7”. You can use the Butler Creek Size 6 (with transparent window) or Size 20 lens caps.

The last bit of info has to do with an adapter that is now getting tested that will mount directly onto to the D-740/D-760 line of scopes. We're almost there and should have these out in approx. 30 days.

    Thanks again for your business!

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

    Quick update:

We've been using the torch pro for about a month and its outstanding. I have made some shots on hogs from > 100 yards now with this light and will post some of the pics as soon as we sift through our latest cache and hard drive.

Vic, when you can send me a prototype of the new D-740 mount! great idea!

Re: TNVC NEW PRODUCT: IR TORCH PRO!

The Torch Pro really works excellent with the LDI DBAL-I2 IR laser, making it even more powerful than the LDI DBAL-D2.

I use both these setups and like them both very much.
