Want to upgrade the stock on my Remington 700 and am looking primarily at McMillan. Of course I want to try out the fit before buying.
Anyone know of a stocking dealer in Middle TN/Northern AL?
Or, what is the best way to figure out which stock fits me best?

Re: How to try out different stocks?

My local range is pretty sparse for stuff like this. Go to one of the bigger tactical rifle competitions and ask to sit behind the rifles.

Remember one thing though. 1 type of stock can and will feel differently if configured differently. Say L.O.P, adjustable cheek rest and so on. So if one feels a little to long or short, look at the spacers at the rear and see what kind of working room you got. Just wanted to point that out because I have 2 A-5's one with shit loads of spacers and one with none at all. They feel alot different. Good luck sir.

This sounds like my best bet.
There are SO many options on stocks now, even among just a single manufacturer.
I like shooting the stock on the M24, and am sure there are better for my current situation.

Everybody I've ever shot with likes the way a Mcmillan A-5 feels, even if they shoot/want a chassis or different setup for other reasons. I would get a MCMC A-5 OR A-3 and not look back.

Yep. Those are two I am looking at.
McMillan also has an A-3 Sporter stock now.

Re: How to try out different stocks?

I feel the ones you couldn't go wrong with are the McM HTG, A-3, A-3-5, A-5 and sentinal. And also the Manners,T1, T1A, T-2,T-2A,T3,T3A, T-4,T4A and T5-T5A. And also the GAT. I would be happy with any of those stocks. I just don't see how you can go wrong with em. But thats me. Good luck

Re: How to try out different stocks?

Have one with the A3-5 its nice but I have a sentinal on order. The A3-5 is the wifes gun. One of the owners of the range has a sentinal that I shot and suggest getting behind one if you can.
