I have a RRA LAR-8 Varmint with 26" Heavy Barrel. I just ordered a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50mm from Doug @CameralandNY. I have been going over the manual and I keep seeing the 20MOA base needed to properly zero it in, I went to local shop today and only thing I could find is the Burris XTR Extra High Rings or a Nikon M-223XR one piece mount. They recommended that but it just looked cheap how it mounted to the scope with only 1 screw on each side.

I have searched the forums but can't find what others are using on this type of rifle. I probably won't be shooting 1000 yards anytime soon with this rifle but i want to make sure I have the proper elevation adjustments for even 600-800 yard shots. Any help is appreciated.

Re: RRA LAR-8 and Scope Mounts/Rings

im rocking a larue LT158 QD mount with a 10moa cant. It works for me.

Re: RRA LAR-8 and Scope Mounts/Rings

I'm using Vortex/Seekins high rings with my 4-16x50 PST and it clears. I have the standard operator LAR8 and the cheekweld is okay. I'm not sure if there is enough clearance for BC scope caps so I might invest in a one-piece mount.

Re: RRA LAR-8 and Scope Mounts/Rings

I am not worried about it clearing so much as that in the manual for this scope it is saying I will run out of Elevation on the scope without a 20MOA base.

Re: RRA LAR-8 and Scope Mounts/Rings

I too run the Larue LT158. I have the LAR-8 standard operator with a 20" barrel. I have 2.5 full turns of elevation left on my vortex scope at 300 yds. I do believe Larue makes a 20moa mount though. If that what it calls for it wont hurt you.

Re: RRA LAR-8 and Scope Mounts/Rings

Most likely I won't be shooting 1000 yards with this setup, so not sure i need the full 20 moa but I dont want to limit myself later. I will call up LaRue tomorrow and see what their opinion is, I always heard their rings/mounts are top notch.

Re: RRA LAR-8 and Scope Mounts/Rings

Yes they are. They are also very friendly to deal with. Plus when you order from them you get alot of goodies stuffed in the box.

Re: RRA LAR-8 and Scope Mounts/Rings

So I spoke to Larue, they said since my rifle doesnt have a monolithic rail their mounts would not work.

My next step was to call Zeiss and see what they said, they told me to talk to Brownells they sell the base I need. Brownells told me to order this.

Doesn't really make a lot of sense to order that?

Re: RRA LAR-8 and Scope Mounts/Rings

What moron did you speak too? Trust me you will have plenty of room to mount the Larue on your LAR-8. I cannot believe that is what Brownells tried to sell you. Here is mine look at how much room I have left.

This doesn't seem like the type of rifle you'd have any need for a QD mount.

Re: RRA LAR-8 and Scope Mounts/Rings

I want to say his name was Jeff but not 100% sure, they transferred me to tech/gun support to get the right answer, told him i have the LAR-8 26" varmint with the smooth handguard.

I like that mount you have on there, I would much rather have something like that than the individual Burris XTR rings I bought. Do you make those? My scope is 1" so looks like i would need the inserts though. Any special deals for these for Sniper's Hide members? I see they are $250 + $30 for 1" inserts.

Re: RRA LAR-8 and Scope Mounts/Rings

No I didn't make the mount. Larue Tactical did. You can do inserts or you can order the 1" specific model. I went with the non quick detach mounting method. It is the LT 158 or also called SPR-S model. It has 10 moa built in. How much elevation adjustment does your scope have? Unless it has a very narrow adjustment range you should be fine with the 10moa.

Re: RRA LAR-8 and Scope Mounts/Rings

I liked the LaRue but not real happy with the response I got when I called them.

The other picture sent from Jon A looks like he is the one that makes those. I like the mounting on that one as well and it looks like it is on an LAR-8 too.

Re: RRA LAR-8 and Scope Mounts/Rings

I have a LAR 8 A-4. I mounted a Vortex Viper 2.5x10, got my mount from Primary Arms. Check with them their mount works just fine.
