Was looking for broadheads the other day at the archery shop. Almost got a Shwacker, but went with a 100 grain Vortex 2 blade expandable with 2 1/2" cutting diameter. Very knowledgable guys working there recommend the Vortex and they use the Vortex to hunt. I did a quick Google search on them at the shop and saw great reviews, but now I am seeing a lot of mixed reviews. Can anyone give me their opinion (from experience) or maybe post a pic of wounds? Thanks.

Re: Vortex Broadheads?

Vortex has been the only broadhead I've used since '98. Never had one not open.

Never tried rage, but heard the blades tend to flutter when running at high velocity.

Re: Vortex Broadheads?

I have used similar forward deployed broadheads and have had failures, mainly with penetration. The Rage is about as good as it gets as far as expandables go. I still feel a good solid cut on impact head like the G5 is the way to go. If your bow is tuned you do not need an expandable IMO.

Well, I have a 5 day archery hunt in KY in 2 weeks. I have had success with Muzzy 3 blade fixed, so I have debated just using them. I don't want to risk losing one.

Re: Vortex Broadheads?

They are 7/8" off the bow if they don't open. Between 30 hogs/deer all have open for myself.

Re: Vortex Broadheads?

Rage 2 blade......Muzzy 3 blade as a backup and not the MX3. Oh, I may have already mentioned this.
