I went to a local gun store on Saturday, and saw this, I examined it closely she looked pretty good to me. I take it home and begin cleaning it out, there was a lot of grease in the bolt piston area which when you actuated it made this well lube sound that reminded me of my honeymoon. Anyways, cleaned it all out and inspected again, seems things were built well.

So I had an extra Vortex dot strike and put it on there, co witnesses with the sights just perfectly. The irons are pretty nice I had not used any like these, I believe they are Diamond Heads but not sure. Trigger pull is very combat type, not anything to brag about, but it is fine for what it is intended for. Reminds me of my Bravo Company trigger, has that same kind of milspec trigger type feel.

I fired 200 rounds through it today, then when I was going to take it apart and clean it I took some before pics so you can see what it looks like "dirty". The picture up against my jeep tire is after the cleaning...

Is this better than my LMT 308? I don't know, I like them both, and this is my first piston "AR". I really do like this rifle, there is a tad bit more recoil than with the LMT, it hit whatever I was aiming at. I fed it 120 rounds of American Eagle 150gr same ole same ole, 20 rounds of Horandy 150gr, 20 rounds of Remington cheap 150g and 40 rounds of Black Hill 168gr. No errors of any sort, everything ejected fine, loaded fine, cases looked fine as well after firing.

I will keep this rifle, going to figure out an optic I like for it, maybe try one of those new Leupold 1~6x's.

If you get a chance, try one out, I am quite happy with this purchase. Chrome lined barrel and chrome chamber, 1:10 twist 16".

Re: Sig 716 Patrol (pic heavy)

How many inches of real estate is there on the top rail?

Re: Sig 716 Patrol (pic heavy)

16", if you count the front piston housing (cylinder) where the front sight is attached at 17.5"

Re: Sig 716 Patrol (pic heavy)

Only have had the dot on it so far, it blew up everything I was aiming at, which was 100 yards. I will put one of my better scopes on it, I am going to guess around 1 MOA, maybe a tad less if it had a great trigger.

Re: Sig 716 Patrol (pic heavy)

How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking? I am looking very hard at purchasing this rifle, and have seen prices ranging from $1,650 up to $2,000.

Thanks. I'm trying to get a feel for the street price right now since hardly anybody has them in stock.

Re: Sig 716 Patrol (pic heavy)

Several on Gunbroker. I believe the cheapest one is $1699

Re: Sig 716 Patrol (pic heavy)

I went out shooting again today with my NF scope on it. Groups were about 3/4" at 100 yards shooting three times, if I shot 5 times they opened up to about 1". This was American Eagle 150gr, which is pretty damn good for cheap ammo.

I think with good ammo, and a better trigger it would be stupid the level of accuracy. Anything I aimed at I was hitting, but I really had to work hard on that trigger towards the end of shooting...

I couldn't take pictures as I forgot to charge my phone. I shot my dots like I do normally with my bolt guns, however, I will admit it was harder than other guns I own, and that is due to the trigger.

I really do like it, 200 more rounds, 1 missfeed that was due to me not seating the mag towards the end. It was getting quite hot and I was not wanting to be there anymore.

Magpul/KAC/DPMS format. So you can get a bunch of 20rd 7.62 PMAGS for cheap.

Re: Sig 716 Patrol (pic heavy)

I just bought an MWS two weeks ago but I have seen a couple of these since.
It feels pretty good and I like the idea of the piston since I want to run a suppressor.
What the hell, maybe I will go ahead and buy it. I can always (and honestly wanted to) get a 260 or 6.5CM barrel for the LMT.

Re: Sig 716 Patrol (pic heavy)

I just crossed 1,000 round mark with the rifle, figured I would post some update pictures of it, I put in the Geissele and accuracy was much easier to attain. With a 4x scope I was hitting the 600 yard plate with much more ease than before, hits were not constant but if I missed, even with lesser ammo, it was my fault, not the weapon.

These rifles desperately need a trigger, at least mine sure did, now I am in love. The muzzle brake is very loud, since it has ports all but on the bottom, my wife found being back farther was more enjoyable.

The wear is quite normal compared to my AR15s or the LMT MWS, I am not a gunsmith or an armorer even, it is just from my eye wearing fine. The last 200 rounds I shot were USA Ammo, I had 2 failure to feeds, which is quite new, I have had failure to feeds with this ammo in my PTR91 as well as a different 308 so I will chalk it up to this ammo. Note though, that my M1A ate it just fine but that rifle didn't like Hornady 150gr's for some reason, never figured out why.

I still like this rifle a lot, before the trigger I was getting frustrated shooting farther, after 300 yards it really manifested itself for my ability level. Once again, shooting with the PST I was just holding 3.25 mils, roughly, as in with the reticle, and had pretty good success. I like to try shooting longer ranges with just the reticle to simulate finding game, this rifle would be fantastic for hunting. With either my Premier or Nightforce optic I am sure I could really do well now with that trigger.

The wear on the buffer tube weight is smooth to the touch, I think it "slaps" when it goes into battery. Looks like chatter wear, the BCG has no wear on it whatsoever on the aft, all shots are on the medium gas setting, not suppressed nor dirty setting.

Re: Sig 716 Patrol (pic heavy)

That rifle has definitely made the "must-buy" list. Thanks for the update.

Mine has about 600 rounds through it without a hitch using handloaded Barnes 130 grain TSX over 50.0 grains of BLC-2. The Geissele SSA trigger fit perfectly, as did the BattleComp Ambi SS safety, the Troy ClayMore Muzzle Brake keeps the noise down to the shooter and bystanders.

It shoots 3/4 MOA all the time. It gets used all day and all night.

Here it is with an ACOG TA02 FLIR T-50 Truijicon RMR DBAL-D2:
