Re: Brand new Savage rifle? FCP HS in 300 win mag!!

any range reports on these yet ?
I got a wood stocked Sav 110 300wm allready
-but i want one of these I think- stock looks pretty good
I dont think any Savage is gonna shoot any better than the cheap ones though
all the barrel come off same line-
Savages are just a SUPER ACCURATE rifle design
these sure look good though

S.I.T. lets see some pics ?

Re: Brand new Savage rifle? FCP HS in 300 win mag!!

I don't have any pics yet and no range time. My schedule is pretty busy through the week so i won't be able to pick up the gun until Friday. I will be at the range this weekend and can give you feed back and maybe some grouping pictures.

Re: Brand new Savage rifle? FCP HS in 300 win mag!!

So i got to the range today... Wow, this gun is awesome! I didn't do as well as I could have but the gun performed awesome. Part of it was nerves and part of it was the donkey that kicked me whenever I leaned too hard on the loud button. I caught myself on multiple occasions flinching before I pulled the trigger and had to settle down. In all honesty it didn't kick too bad. Just too much anticipation on my part. When i did calm myself it was shooting in 1 moa or better. I can give any accuracy remarks comfortably as the gun was performing just not me. So next rang session (maybe tomorrow) I can do my part.

Re: Brand new Savage rifle? FCP HS in 300 win mag!!

I just got one- & the sling stud swivels were stripped out - would not tighten - the holes in the aluminum rail they are tapped into - had threads on one side & not very deep at that
the front 2 were an easy fix- drill down to the aluminum bar and add longer studs with nuts - then epoxy over the nuts
just to clarify I made londer studs
from larger diamenter 5mm x30 tpi studs from the bolt bin
adding a flat washer to both sides
another member here told me how to fix the rear by taking off the but plate & putting a small peice of metal tapped for the stud in while the epoxy is wet to center it
but my rear stud seems fine -
not what you want to hear about a new rifle -
but just a heads up
Id at least pull the studs & inspect
before your scope & rifle hit the deck
because of a pulled stud
other than that it looks great - now stronger than new
trigger is awesome
cant wait for some trigger time

Re: Brand new Savage rifle? FCP HS in 300 win mag!!

to all that have one of these -
is your stock way closer to the barrel on one side ?
left side ?
with the few Ive talked to
with this model most have said
thiers was also closer on one side

Re: Brand new Savage rifle? FCP HS in 300 win mag!!

I have the 308 model and my barrel is much closer to one side. It shoots great though.

Re: Brand new Savage rifle? FCP HS in 300 win mag!!

one hole & clover leafs at 100
3' at 500
210 bergers 72 gr H1000 3.630 coal- .002 off lands
208 amaxes same poi- not quite as good groups 1/2 at 100
I dont have a chronograph but going by the 500 yrd drop on JBL
for my bullet -35 its running around 3000
I would like to confirm this if anyone is shooting same load
my factory trigger came at 1lb -
I bought a sav 2 in anticipation of a factory trigger
but this LE accutrigger rocks -
& I have modded my non LE accutriggers down to a lb
also found a way to mod factory mag to run vld's long enough to touch the lands -pm me if any one is interested -
you have to buy a factory HFP bottom metal to get it done -
75.00 used - 125.00 new
but you can sell your dbm set up to recoop some of it
this FCP is the sweetest shooting factory rifle
I ever shot period....!!

Wow, finally. That's the review I've been waiting for. It'll be nice when you get a chance to run her through a chrony. Sounds like you haven't had a chance to really stretch it's legs yet. Keep us informed, and any other info would be appreciated.

Re: Brand new Savage rifle? FCP HS in 300 win mag!!

So does this system take aic long action 300 win mag mags? If so can you load 208s 225s 190 gr class bullets to mag length and get them to shoot well? Is the barrel 26 plus break? Is the break effective? Is barrel fluted? Will they sell me this barreled action trigger assembly only. Less the stock? I have a a5 I want to fill up. I would like to do it with this.

Re: Brand new Savage rifle? FCP HS in 300 win mag!!

Savage does some good things, but sometimes they don't get it just right. Why a 24" bbl on a 300WM that is obviously not a hunting rifle when they have 26" barrel .223s, .243s, .260s, etc?? A 26" bbl threaded and the DBM would have these flying out the door at the same price as the R700 offerings. You may not think 2 more inches is a lot, but try telling your girlfriend that and see her reaction.

Re: Brand new Savage rifle? FCP HS in 300 win mag!!

all you need is your serial # to buy parts from savage
I bought 2 exstra mags from savage partsfinder for 14.00 each- 1 just in case I messed up
bought a hinged floorplate to replace dbm from NSS northland shooters supply
savage will also sell them to non gunsmiths

cut the front off it & tack welded it to front of original making overall length 3.875 or so
before welding cut out front of original leaving approximatly 1/4 of metal or a little less on both sides & bottom
bullet noses dont go all way to bottom-
take a small flat file and move the 4 holes that hold mag to bottom metal slightly fowoard .010-.015
notice all will not need same amount -put it in BM and see which ones need moved -some may not need any
some will need .010-.015
if you want 2 in the mag trim bottom of welded on portion till it fits in HFP BM
if you want 3 in the mag trim left front approximatly to center of hinged floor plate
you will still have to trim -hand fit - bottom of welded on part of mag to HFP BM
if you go slow & take your time it will be hard to see the seam where they meet
even if there is a seam it wont affect feeding
you can do all this with a dremel with grinder wheel on it
oh yea & a mig welder turned way down for tacking the mag parts together
cold blue every bright place when your done
I can load 208 Amaxs & 210 Bergers touching the lands about 3.685 if I remember right
its take a little doing but its well worth it
aftermarket BM for theses start at 300.00 or so
and I like the flush fit better anyway
good luck

one last update
this is still by far the most accurate rifle I ever shot
I hit a node at 72 gr H1000 -but decided I wanted more
I went up .5 gr at a time
I found another node at 77 gr & 77 1/2 gr
both loads put em all in one hole at 100 yards
we have a man silhouette at 500 yards
I held 2 mils on the head & hit 1"right & 3"high of dead center
about where the eye would be
210 bergers BHA brass 77gr H100 fed lrm match 3.600coal
I would like to hear range reports from you other guys shooting 300wm FCP's

Id love to hear some feedback on the Savage FCP 10 in 300 Win Mag now that its been around a while. I just bought one. Havent fired or even mounted scope yet (hasnt come in yet) as its a new model just released.

-Savage FCP 10 - (HS Precision stock) in 300 WM
-Vortex Viper PST FFP - 6-24x50mm (30mm tube) with MRAD 2C reticle
-Badger Ord - 20 MOA base
-Seekins precision low rings
-Nightforce Angle Degree Indicator
-Vortex scope level

Id really like to know if someone has found a better recipe than the 210 bergers BHA brass 77gr H100 fed lrm match 3.600 coal that ACTS238 suggested above.

Hi LongTatLaw,

I have been wanting one of these for a while now and may purchase soon. Have you been able to shoot it? If so, how does it shoot? I will end up swapping out the 300 win mag barrel for a 7mm rem mag barrel. Hope to hear from you soon.

Just went to range yesterday it's still
.5 Moa after fouling with both BHA & WW brass
But what shoots good in my barrel may not in yours
You need to do a ladder test
To find your sweet spot

Thanks for the reply!
.5 MOA is awesome!

let me add this
I have found savages in general WILL NOT SHOOT WELL CLEAN
the barrel has to be fouled -
