I have been Saving money and am getting. Closee to being able to purchase my next rifle. (used of the hide her, or wait a bit longer and order)I have a gap thunder ranch and really love it. But what I am wondering is how do the DTAs feel and shoot. I wish I could get my hands on a dta ahead of time and a sentinel but I don think that's going to happen. Anyone have any first hand experience that they can pas along about what they like/ don't like for the dta and sentinel stocks or even the mcs-GAT. This will be used mainly for hunting and local competitions between friends for fun.

Re: DTA, vs GAP, LAPeecision, and such

I've used a DTA for quite a while now and I still love it. My other 308 is a Surgeon action with rock barrel set in an AX chassis, but I still prefer to shoot the DTA. The 60 degree bolt throw is fast and smooth and it out shoots the surgeon. I'm a nobody in the world of firearms, and their customer service has treated me like their best customer.

The down side is that the rifle is so unique looking that it attracts a lot of attention at a public range.

I have a couple of builds with Sentinel Stocks and they suit me very well. I'm not a real big AI stock fan with the exception of the AX chassis.

The Manners Stocks are excellent also without a doubt. You just have to grab a couple and see how they fit you and feel. Hell you can hook up with plenty of guys in the Great State of Texas to get a feel of what you will like.

Re: DTA, vs GAP, LAPeecision, and such

I'd skip the DTA. I've owned one, just didn't do it for me and they don't really work in competitions as well as traditional rifles do.

I owned 2 very nice rifles in Sentinel stocks. They work well, won't hold you back. If you like them then go for it, don't hesitate, resale is good if you don't like it.

I REALLY LIKE AI RIFLES and all AI stocks. If I was you I'd get an AI MkIII or an AX if you can afford it. I've literally owned them ALL....seriously...and I now own AIs and AIs only.

Black ops precision, the bottom metal alone is heads above the other dbms out there. Fit and finish is phenominal. Only problem is they are back ordered I believe. Took my 7 months to get mine.

Jason, was there anything in particular that turned you off to the DTA? What didn't work well in a competition setting? I'm curious as I've been considering a TRG or saving up a bit more for the DTA.

Funny you say that I found a shop that has an AIAW with a S&B on it that I have been eyeing. They say it has hardly been shot but they are asking $7000 for it? Nonfolder? Looks to be in great shape but Priced over my range. I wish I could feel a sentinel stock first hand. Thanks for the input everyone.

You REALLY need to get behind what you are considering. What works for me might be FUBAR for you.
