Anyone know a source for 1/4-32 socket head cap screws? I need some for my FN 308 build.

Thanks

I bet you could whip up a shop-made rotobroach in about 3 man hours.
You don't need the depth capability of the commercially produced tooling for simple socket head fasteners.
Youtube is your friend...

True, but if I do this (when) I'm going to run about a couple thousand of the little bastages so that I don't have to do it again for a couple years.

When I get "irked" at a problem I typically solve it this way.

we recently ran out of bedding pillars. I ran enough for two years at our current production rate. About to do the same with sling studs as were low on them again too.

Parent teacher conferences tonight! Lets see what the daughter has been up to. . .

Check with your local Caterpillar dealer, I bet they can order some and have them the next day. i don't know if I have a catalog anymore with the part numbers but I will look this weekend.

Re-cut some long 1/4-whatever bolts. If you get some long cap screws the threads will stop well short of the head and you can cut whatever threads you need into the shank. Not as strong a rolled threads though.

If I ever start making guns, all of the threads will be left hand #11 by 1mm with modified torx heads. So much for interchangeable parts...

Oh, also ARP will make about anything you can think of.

Re: 1/4-32 SOCKET HEAD SCREWS

First: The easiest answer here is brownells...

http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1784/Product/SOCKET-HEAD-TRIGGERGUARD-SCREWS

Second: Chad, if you make these, please increase the hex size. Count me in for several sets.

Third: Chad, it would be great if you made some "all thread" 1/4-32 also, for the purpose of bedding Win70's and FN's. Just food for thought.

Fourth: Getting ARP or SPS to make these will be cost-prohibitive until you're talking thousands and thousands. However, the quality will be out-fucking-standing. They cold form, heat-treat, then roll the threads in. No finer way of manufacturing a fastener. There again, action screws don't need to do the same thing as connecting rod bolts.

I've got a couple Slater rotary broaching tools and a dozen or so broaches setting in a drawer that haven't been used in years. I could probably loan them to you if you needed.

Re: 1/4-32 SOCKET HEAD SCREWS

when I needed Mauser 1/4-22 socket head screws and could not get them ANYwhere in israel I went Brownells way and ordered the follwong items:
CARBON-DIE and SOCKET-BLANK-SCREW

You can do it for 1/4-32 easily and the results were great, I really appreciate Brownells more and more every day

Re: 1/4-32 SOCKET HEAD SCREWS

As an aside, I'd like to kick the fucktard who chose 1/4-32 screws for the Win70 square in the nuts.

I'd piss on his grave, but I heard they buried him in a raincoat.

Re: 1/4-32 SOCKET HEAD SCREWS

Years ago, an old smith that I'd worked with showed me a chart that had 35-40 different 1/4" thread options for firearms.

I was taken aback, for sure. Prior to that moment I had only known about UNC. UNF, and Whitworth. I think there was a UNS in there as well. Again, I forget.
