Just cracked open the box on a brand new HS and the elevation is marked as one click is 1/2 MOA.
Thought only the LR models were 1/2 MOA?? This is not a LR.
Instructions say 1/4.....
No big deal to me but got me curious.....

I'll call Vortex if nobody has seen this...

Wrong... Probably just marked wrong. Give them a call if it bothers you.

Re: 4-16x44 Viper HS elevation

I got the same scope several months back from Scott at Liberty Optics and REALLY like it. HS I believe stands for "hunter series" and the exposed elevation turret is 1/2 MOA per click 24MOA per revolution while the capped windage turret is 1/4MOA per click 10MOA per revolution. IIRC it's supposed to be the primary host for Vortex's custom TMT caps. I believe the 1/2 MOA on the elevation was chosen to be be more practical for hunters dialing a specific range in less than one full rotation. Vortex will get you squared away though.

Re: 4-16x44 Viper HS elevation

The exposed turret is the LR model and should be 1/2 MOA on elevation but on the non-LR the turret is not exposed and should be 1/4moa. I guess I don't care but I have several scopes for testing and if this goes down the road I want it right or have an explanation....

The Simmons side focus 4-12x44 44mag is just as bright and sharp. May not be as durable but who knows... I have another that has survived ~100 rounds on a 7lb scoped 270WBY.

It depends what company you are talking about. With a Nightforce HS does mean high speed turrets. With Vortex, HS is a designator for a different line of scopes.
