Does anyone know where to get some good subsonic bulk ammo, or should i just get fifty 100 packs of CCI subs? Im looking for 3-5K rounds. Im wondering if anyone has used the aguila sub sonic, they advertise 1023 fps.

Re: Decent bulk subsonic ammo?

Dude, if your gun likes it, get some Wolf Match Extra. 1050 FPS, this stuff is giving me insanely tight groups out of my Savage MK II TR. I don't even wear earplugs when I shoot it anymore, they're pointless.

MidwayUSA sells bulk packs of 5000 for $754.00 thats the link for it.

and whatever you do, make sure you're getting Match Extra and not Match Target. Match target is one or 2 grades below, and the difference is huge when you get out past 100 meters.

Re: Decent bulk subsonic ammo?

MidwayUSA list the CCI SV in 100, 500, and 5000. I don't know how they are packaged, but the 5000 is cheaper than 10 500s

Re: Decent bulk subsonic ammo?

I use the Aquila's, they are the only thing that will stay sub-sonic in my 22" barrel. They have a funny smell when you shoot them. The powder is kind of gritty too, almost like sand. So I don't use them in my 10/22 any more, too much clean up.

Re: Decent bulk subsonic ammo?

Used the CCI SV's in my 10/22 with green mountain barrel and it'll shoot about two MOA. I think at the price point it's one of the better ones, though certainly not "match" 22LR

Re: Decent bulk subsonic ammo?

CCI subs here, love 'em using the can. As with all ammo, they used to be a good buy at $5/100, now they are around $8-9/100.

I run cheap standard velocity Federal bulk most of the time since it still stays subsonic through the suppressed pistol. Not as quite as the CCI but still pretty damn quite considering the price of each.

Re: Decent bulk subsonic ammo?

A case of CCI SV's, 5000 rnds, is the way to go. I think I got mine for around $230, shipped. I shoot this stuff almost exclusively through a bolt gun, so it is gonna last a long time.

Re: Decent bulk subsonic ammo?

I've used the Aguila subsonic and have found that the Aguila "Standard Velocity" 40gr in the yellow box (says "Eley" in tiny black and white on the box) is just as quiet, more accurate and cheaper.

I buy the Aguila by the multi-brick order and it will stay inside 6" at 200yd from my Savage bolt action. Very quiet, though not as quiet as the Super Colibri is.

In a pinch I've bought the Rem Subsonic at my local walmart and it was about $33-34 for the brick, about $7/brick more expensive than the Aguila and shoots about 8" at 200yd. I do get the occasional supersonic round from it.

Re: Decent bulk subsonic ammo?

I am using RWS sub sonic. I picked up 2 bricks at a show last year cheap, and it works real well in my MK II. MM

Re: Decent bulk subsonic ammo?

Aguila has been very affordable and accuracy results for the price is acceptable.

Re: Decent bulk subsonic ammo?

The CCI Subsonic is a go-to round for 50 foot and 25 yard bullseye practice (22LR semi auto pistol).

Remington Target (green box w blue stripe) fails to impress in the accuracy department, though will go bang and hit moderately sized targets if you want to use it for more of a field course training exercise and not precision group shooting.

Never had an Aguila round, regardless of what was written on the outside of the box or the color of the box, produce anything approaching accuracy and consistency in a rifle. I find its only practical use is giving it to people I don't like.

Re: Decent bulk subsonic ammo?

try small boxes of various loads, buy in bulk the one that gave you The best, consistent results.
As far as where to look/buy: just figure out what works best in your rifle and let us know what to help you find in bulk .

Fyi I use cci, but just because me and my rifle get good results doesn't guarantee the same for you.

Re: Decent bulk subsonic ammo?

Nothing wrong with teh CCI subs, but you should also try the Winchester 40grn TCHP subsonic load (X22LRSUBA). Just that little bit more accurate in my Savage than the CCI SV.

Re: Decent bulk subsonic ammo?

My benchrest rifles--1968 Remington 40 X US,Tony Kidd Supergrade,Savage Mark 11 BTV,1969 Romainan Trainer. I have shot about every kind of ammo,match,subsonic,HP,..the best, most consistent ammo for all my guns is CCI Standard Velocity 1070 FPS. In my 40 X and my Tony Kidd Supergrade you can cover 10 shot groups with a dime. I order it in bulk from Target Sports USA for $2.75 box of 50. 5000 rounds are $279.00--Free Shipping. My match ammo isn,t any,if slightly better. Try some i think you will be impressed.

I'm glad this works for your rifles, but most of us don't have that good of luck. Yes; CCI SV is pretty much the best @ the price point and good stuff for most purposes at any price, but for consistency and accuracy it can't begin to compete with stuff like Wolf MT and others even at that price point. That's just my experience from fairly extensive testing @ distances from 50 out to 200 yards. That being said the SV holds abt 2.5 MOA out to 300 yards for me and is a blast for plinking steel at that range. Not arguing that it does great in your rifles, but most of us benefit from buying higher end stuff when trying to squeeze the most out of our rifles.

Since I hate paying shipping, I keep my eyes open and buy when the local DSG has 500 pack of CCI SV for $26.something in stock. I have been pretty impressed with the lot of I've been using. Without any great effort, holding about 1.5 MOA out to 150 yards.
