Fellas,
I went in to SORD Australia earlier this week to develop a small line of items for our community and the greater war on terror, to fill some gaps where short falls were identified.

boltgunrig.jpg

First up we went through a rapid prototype, concept development and refinement phase for each item in the Sniper / Long range community related line.

In the short 5 hour block; we designed, built MK1 concept prototype, modified that then created MK2 prototypes for each item and have now progressed them to a point where they are ready for early production and will be available to the retail and Government market.

The new items currently include but are not limited to:

Kestrel 4500NV foam padded protective pouch. The pouch is designed to protect the fragile screen and butons of the Kestrel weather stations. 3mm foam padding around the front 180 degrees of the unit with a single velcro lid flap allow quick access, streamlined design to avoid being caught up with buckles and clips. The pouch is a single column wide so you can put it almost anywhere. The pouch covers the vast majority of the unit allowing adequote finger purchase when grabbing and removing the unit. For what it is, you need to look after the Kestrel. This pouch will also hold the Garmin Etrex and Garmin GPSMAP 60 series units with their external antennas. 1000 Denier construction, all milspec fittings and materials exported from the USA.

Swarovski LRF foam padded protective pouch. This pouch is designed to protect your LRF unit with 5mm foam padding and a single layer plastic sheet that adds rigidity and integrity to the pouch. When you consider how much these items cost, it's worth the added benefits of the foam amour. As with the Kestrel pouch, single foam flap lid to avoid excess bulk and hanging up on buckles. There is NO drainage grommet in the base of the pouch to help minimise crud and debris entering the pouch and to help protect the lenses. This was designed for the Swarovski Laser Guide 8x30 LRF unit with the factory foam padded sling however will of course fit any similar (same or smaller) sized units. The pouch is 3 columns wide so no bigger than a normal accessories pouch. 1000 Denier construction, all milspec fittings and materials exported from the USA.

POUCH INTERNAL DIMENSIONS:
Width: 112mm
Height: 150mm
Depth: 45mm square - will form fit due to foam with no issue.

Swarovski 8x30 Laser Guide LRF DIMENSIONS:
Width: 110mm
Height: 122mm
Thickness: 49mm

AICS 5RND x 2 Magazine Pouch. Pretty self explanitory, will hold two SHORT ACTION magazines in a single bucket design pouch. Lined pouch with a single velcro flap to minimise on bulk. 50mm velcro provides solid grasp of the lid. Minimum fuss, two columns wide. Yes, 10 round magazine pouches are in the works. 1000 Denier construction, all milspec fittings and materials exported from the USA.

Watch this space, there are other items to follow.

Word is that first up all items will be in MultiCam fabric with the prospects of being done in SBC and ATACS.

I'm only posting these here because it's to benefit our community. I'm not receiving any sort of payment for this work, just the satisfaction of knowing they're going to be out and about with our fellow trigger pullers.

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

SPOT-ON! Very nice, brother.

Any chance for a padded Vectronix PLRF pouch?

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

Great ideas. I'm constantly worried about my Kestrel being on the outside of my gear, as they aren't exactly built like tanks.

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

Great idea. Easy to get to and protected

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

Nicely done. Belay that. VERY nicely done!

How about TRG mag pouch to fit Molle or belt? And something to hold small binoculars (I use subcompact Leica but most have a similar form factor).

Great stuff! Well-thought-out.

Thanks and cheers,

Sirhr

Nice looking pouch, will it work with Sako TRG-22 mags? I am kind of tired of using USGI grenade pouches for mine.

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

Thanks fellas, appreciate the input! Put up another set of pics and the AICS 5rnd x 2 is available for sale now on SORD website, link above.

Sinister, do you have the exact dimensions of the PLRF brother?

I did find this slinking around the net to try and help but we can only assume the figures are accurate... If it's smaller or the same size as a Swaro then there should be no issues.

Frankythefly, do you have the exact measurements for the Sako mags?
This AICS 5x2 is SNUG to avoid any movement...

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

+1 on Falla and RB1!

SORD products are very well made and thought out!

Jason has his shit together!

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

The lads and I were up in the hills last week giving some of the gear a work out, there will be a tuck buckle version of both the LRF and Kestrel pouch up for grabs at some stage also to mitigate the noise of Velcro which addresses a valid concern for alot of work.

SORDLRFDEV.jpg

Also a quick comparo of ATACS FG vs Multicam pattern in our Victorian high country... This top / bottom combo works really well here, being the end of winter it's all very green so things blend pretty well.

SORDATACSMTC.jpg

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

Very nice. Just a note...have you thought about putting a divider between the two mags? Would minimize noise and protect mags from each other.

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

I have a SORD soft shell jacket that Graham gave me. It is one of the nicest cool weather jackets I have ever worn. I would expect no less from their nylon gear. Nice work 96C.

I've already ripped my new jacket at the elbows - twice.

I can more than likely fix it with cordura, elbow panels.

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

Great looking kit! Thanks for sharing.

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

I pulled my PLRF 15 from the safe, it measures 4" wide by 2" tall by 5 3/8" long (front to rear including the eyecup).

Not wanting to divert or take away from SORD in any way but for informational purposes I have mine in one of these cases and it has worked well for me:

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

Thinking about getting some atacs and I'm down in Victoria too. Do you reckon the fg would be better down here than the original atacs? I was thinking original atacs for the drier months. Thoughts?

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

Thanks fellas, appreciate the kind words. It's a good opportunity to push some gear for the community.

I'm working with the boss to get gear sent over to SORD USA for sale so you boys don't have to deal with international postage, does that help you boys?

We're working on a platform at the moment, high speed light weight and snipery... Once that's all squared away and tweaked I'll let you know and we'll see how it goes.

R33perman, ATACS FG will be good for most of the year except the dry grass areas during summer when everything is sun bleached... Then it'd stand out worse than Multicam. It's a good pattern but not as universal than MTC which is a double edged sword. ATACS FG for cooler greener seasons, ATACS Arid for summer and it'd be all covered mate.

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

Awesome kit, cant wait till its in production.

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

As some of you know I've been running a PRS medium tripod for the last couple years now and it is always within arms reach when in the field... Worth its weight in gold. (available from: www.precisionriflesolutions.com FYI.)

One issue I ran into is carrying it, so we looked at this problem and put together a light weight, low profile, snipery solution based on an existing SORD pouch that was originally designed to hold an 870 breaching shotgun or a sledge in CQB / MOE.

SORD870back.jpg

(This is the SORD 870 back, the oringial concept base)

With that pouch as a concept, we gutted it down to bare bones and focused more on the retention and light weight side of things. I know most day packs / gun packs have sleeves down the side these days but this is a nice way to round out your kit and keep a low profile.

This is what we came up with, the "Tripod Sleeve - PRS Medium". It's only TWO columns wide so it'll go on the side of any day pack with MOLLE or an armour back panel. There is a captive elastic strap that is removable that will help control the tripod whilst in the sleeve, keeping it snug. Single layer 1000D with a reinforced throat to help keep at least some shape to help with inserting the tripod. Single fastex strap over the cradle to keep it in place.

SORDpacktripodsleevedemo.jpg

(here's a pretty rubbish photo of it on my Camelbak motherlode) as a size reference).

These will be up for grabs at some stage in the next few weeks also. There's word of an initial 25 being made up, I'll work on getting at least half of them sent over to SORD USA for you guys to avoid the international postage dramas.

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

That's awesome! You should link up with PRS so they can carry that on their site.

I'm also in the process of developing a new light weight, low profile chest rig for sniper / CTR recon work but will also go well for the tactical rifle competition work. We built the prototype, took it out, changed a bunch of things and now 6 trial samples have gone out to the other lads for a run. There will be the base platform with an array of options that will come out as they are ready.

As a sample though...

Good stuff! I am a multicam whore, SORD's equipment looks top notch.

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

Not to "call out" another product, or praise one I haven't used...but just judging by the photos.
You're Kestrel pouch looks to be a much more precise, contoured fit than the one I ordered from Kestrel.
It was absurdly loose and so I just lined it with a more padded fabric which cured the issue...but the flap is still far too loose at its tightest point IMO.

That's great and would like to see more. I'm looking for some new gear to do everything, precision shooting, work with carbine and even hunting. I was poking around the other day to see what's out there for me to house what hunting gear I use. Getting it out of the pack and on me may be easier especially when I use the hand climber stand, one less thing to haul up and hang also makes it more accessible. These pouches could be multi-use items.

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

Wow! Looks really good. Just a comment on the Kestrel pouch. I have one of the factory pouches, and if you have seen them you see the sides are really open. I asked them about this - since it seems like a potential for problems. The answer I got was that it was designed that way to allow the kestrel to have access to the ambient atmosphere (temp etc). You may want to think about paring down the sides some to allow the sensor access to the outside airflow - or maybe only one side since the sensor is really only on one side of the Kestrel.

That's a good idea, I'll have a think about that and maybe have a play with the patterns. I don't leave mine turned on when it's not in my hand. I can see where they're coming from but weather trends aren't that much of a concern for me generally.

We wanted to keep the walls high to protect those components, we figured that was more important than letting them 'breathe'.

That's definitely a double edged sword there!

Thanks for the potitive feedback boys, if anyone is looking to group order or the like email salesmgr @ sordaustralia. com
Tell them 96C sent you from the hide, they might be able to help you out.

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

keep up the good work guys. I love my SORD jacket; bought it back 3 or 4 years ago. great piece of gear.

I doubt the developer remembers me, but I talked to him at SHOT right after I bought it. He spotted me wearing it at the SHOT show and said hello.

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

Just a note - the Kestrel's are always on when they have batteries in. The screen may be off, but they are still tracking weather and everything. The only way to shut them off is to take out the batteries.

Re: SORD - first of the new sniper related products.

I noticed that not all the products on the Australian website are on the USA one. Any luck in getting the sleeping bag and bivvi on USA website? I'm interested I ordering these.

Bear in mind the small fits my AICS AX with 20" barrel and brake with room to spare.

As for AUS / USA products, you'll have to get in touch with the USA boys to generate interest. As I said earlier, I'm not working for either group as such so I'm outside the loop with that side of things.
