First post so please take it easy on me... :)

I am looking for a rifle with some specific features and I was hoping that someone can point me to one or if its going to end up being a custom job who could make it for me. This rifle will be topped with a 3x9 scope and I am looking to get out to ~600 yards or so. I will primarily use this for hunting and playing at the range

For starters, I am fairly proficient with firearms and have shot plenty of bolt guns and semiautos. Ive looked at the Ruger Gunsite Scout but I was not impressed with the stock and it seemed a little on the heavy site.

I am looking for a light weight rifle (7lb + change)
in .308
18 to 20" barrel but it can be longer as long as its not fluted and can be cut down at a later time. I would prefer a standard to medium couture barrel, not heavy
removable magazine (5 and 10 round) If it can be the m1a mags a HUGE plus!
fairly precise (under 2 moa)
threaded for possible suppressor later on in life...

Anyway, hopefully someone knows of a rifle of this type...

Thanks in advance!

Re: Looking for a rifle with specific features

Remington 700 5R with a 20 inch barrel

700 5R

or an AAC-SD

700 AAC-SD

I think they both of hinged floor plates which can be replaced with a DBM but the stock on the AAC-SD sucks and should be replaced as soon as possible.

Re: Looking for a rifle with specific features

Voland, While you might think you are listing a restrictive list almost all Rem 700 bolt rifles will fit your bill. Can have the barrels cut down, stocks changed out, DBM added etc...

But they fall into two categories with the stock:

1: Need to replace stock
2: Don't need to replace stock

After that you just need to choose which bottom metal you want to install so you can have a detachable mag system, usually 5-10 rounds.

Then you can also choose which barrel twist: The conventional wisdom is that the 1:10 will be preferred.

SPS 20", has 1:12
AAC-SD 20" has 1:10

You say you're only going out to 600 yards but if at some point you want to shoot further your scope might not have enough adjustment so it won't cost much, if any more, to get a +20 MOA scope base now.

As far as a suppressor later on, the AAC-SD comes already threaded with thread protector from the factory.

This would be my first choice unless able to pick and choose from the custom rifles that come across the Firearms for Sale forum.

Good luck and welcome to The Hide,

Seekers

Remington 700 PSS with DBM added. Badger Ordanance, CDI, PT&G, APA, Surgeon are some of the fine folks making DBM kits for Rem 700's.

That ugly ass Ruger will get you out to 700 yards no problem (mine did). Even Howa has a new heavy barreled 20" .308 and a detachable 10 round mag. Not to mention Savage and I'm sure there are others out there.

Your goal of buying a rifle that can shoot 600 yards with sub 2 MOA accuracy (match grade ammo of course) is actually rather easy to accomplish.

Re: Looking for a rifle with specific features

Honestly, take a look at the Tikka T3 Lite in .308. It meets your weight requirement, magazine requirement, barrel requirement (other than the threaded part), and distance and accuracy requirements. I have one in 7mm Mag for my hunting rifle. Mine was a 3/4" gun right out of the box. I dropped a whitetail like a sack of bricks from 615 yards with it last year.
