anyone loading 147 bullets for a 9mm, trying to come up with a starting load with TG.

Using barry 147 DS looking for a OAL. seen all kinds of numbers....wondering because these things are LONNNGGG

Re: 9mm reloading

My notes show 1.130 oal with the Berry 147fmj using 3.2-3.4grains of Titegroup. I did note the slide did not always lock back when shooting one handed. Ave vel was 871(3.2) and 894(3.4).

Re: 9mm reloading

thx surfing for an hour or so shows 3-3.5grn of TG and 1.125-1.16 for oal

Re: 9mm reloading

Loading 9mm is a pain. Loading more reliable and more accurate ammo than factory ammo is even more of a pain. And the cost savings is negligible.

That's interesting. I've been loading ammo for my 9mm's htat shoots just as relible as any factory ammo I've ever bought. More accurate too.

As for savings??? Seems like the cheapest "garbage grade" 9mm ammo I've seen for sale runs in the range of $150-$160 per thousand rounds. That same amount of money gives me 1600 handloads using a good jacketed hollow point, not a cheap cast or swaged/plated bullet.

Also, when I need a few thousand more rounds, I just go run them off my 650. Less trouble than going to the Store or searching the net for a sale on cheap stuff.

I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder.

BTW, I want to thank you and all the others who feel it's a "Pain" to reload 9mm. I appreciate all the nice clean, once fired, brass you and the others leave behind. It's my pleasure to sweep up after you.

Re: 9mm reloading

haha , my 9mm reloads are more reliable then most of the factory stuff i come across. My s&w sigma and cz75 only feed my reloads. Especially the sigma. They wont eat most of the factory ammo i've tried.

but shit , my ruger p95 will swallow anything

Re: 9mm reloading

I just finished a little testing with 147's and TG out of a G34. Bullets are Precision Delta 147's loaded in mixed brass. Winchester small pistol primers. COAL: 1.150". All functioned the gun reliably in the small sample size used (10 of each charge weight). I am loading up more at 3.3gr for additional reliability testing.

Bullet Powder Charge Wt Velocity

147 FMJ TiteGroup 3.1- 873
147 FMJ TiteGroup 3.2- 886
147 FMJ TiteGroup 3.3- 913
147 FMJ TiteGroup 3.4- 928
147 FMJ TiteGroup 3.5- 939

Re: 9mm reloading

thanks in the same boat wanting to load for my g34. have 250 montana gold 147 and 1k 115's

Re: 9mm reloading

I am into steel and idpa shoots. I shoot high volume 9mm. I also cast my own and load them. Lets do some math here:

lead cost per round: $0.02
Primer cost per round:$0.03
Powder cost per round: $0.01
brass is range pick up and reload so we will call that free.

These are rough costs. But, it costs around $0.06 per round, or $60 per thousand. I like this cost savings.

I always come home from the range with more brass than I fired. I wish that was true for the .45 acp, too.

I never have enough brass.

I've been using 147 grain lead bullets from Missouri Bullet Co. in my XDMs the 5.25 and the 3.8 don't seem to be length sensitive at all. I tried different OAL with my Browning and didn't find anything that worked well. The XDMs are eating up all those different length reloads box after box and giving me as good a group as the Winchester white box or Federal fmj ammo.

Its got to fit in the magazine and feed from the magazine and chamber. I load out as long as I can to get those 3 things and it works in my 9mm guns.

I do OK with mine. ~$.11/round using Berrys 124gr plated versus $.21+ for factory and I'm definitely as accurate if not better than factory. No more difficult to load on my 550 than .45.
