Ok, this is new to me buying parts and having an AR 15 built. Have and had many rifles built but not an AR. I ordered some barrels from Rock creek and 1 of them was a blank 8 twist for the 223 AR build. The barrel will finish at either 18 or 20 inches so it will need to be turned down and the whole nine yards. The purpose of the rifle is i will be using it to hunt with and do some shooting at the club. I know that Gap works on them and another 1 or 2. Wanting to compile a list of who will barrel and put these together. Planning on shooting 60 gr and up bullets. I here of the match and wylde chambers on these and not sure what i need to do or what is best for my purpose. The Seekins lower is finished and waiting on the other Seekins parts to do the upper. I am going through rangerwalker (Steve) for the rest of the parts and he has been a super guy on the phone and very helpful in helping me out.

Any input would be of great help.

    Thanks,
    Dan

    Re: AR 15 chambering question

Any reason you don't want to get a pre-chambered and finished AR barrel? No need to complicate things. Just pick a twist, length, and contour and have at it. There are plenty of aftermarket AR barrels.

I see plenty of reason for what he is doing just not sure exactly what he is asking for? Smiths who can? or difference between match or Wylde?

Smiths most any smith can do it just make sure you send your bolt along with your blank. Mike over at Dtech my be able to do the work but last I heard he was at a 8 month wait.

Go with either just remember your match is tighter. If you only plan on shooting hand loads go that route. Again tell your smith what your wanting and he should take it from there.

I too also plan on running a Rock barrel on my AR soon.

Just trying to get a feel and contacts on who all will work on these so i can compile a list and have for references. As for the chamber i will be reloading for the rifle. Sounds like i need a match chamber from what was stated above but if for some reason if i had to run a box of match factory ammo would i be ok?

Your OP said you purchased a blank. Don't you need to add a barrel extension, turn the gas seat and drill a gas port?

    Re: AR 15 chambering question

Yes, it is a blank. Who ever is going to put the upper together is going to be the 1 to finish out the barrel and chamber it. Looking to go with something that is not the size of a hog or pencil thin, something in between no longer than 18 inches.

    Re: AR 15 chambering question

Man, I'd sell that blank and pick up a regular old WOA SPR contour barrel.
