Hi Guys

Just purchased a Blaser tac 2 in 338 LM and wanted to see if anyone had experiance with the platform out to, and past, 1000 yards? Would like any opinions or advice on its ability to reach out there as well as any loads you may have that work for you in the 338LM.

Thanks

A friend of mine has the same rifle outfitted with titanium Gemtech suppressor on it. We have been having a hell of a time getting it to group. Have tried multiple loads, bullets, seating depths, etc. I hope you have better luck than we are having.

Hi Jig,

Thanks for the response. Its funny you mention this however a very close friend of mine who has extensive experiance with the tac 2 and LRS platform conducted research on the 338LM supprive values at extended range for our fedral Department of defence and funnily enough a few non mentionable chaps from your side of the world. A quick step in the right direction would be to ensure you run a reflex configured suppressor, not a screw on the front, with a .338 as you would know your main enemy will stabalizing at a reduced load yet retaining effective suppression.

Key to this lies in your expansion chamber, running a flush cup fit, ensure you maxamise your expansion chamber when slecting a can as his findings were a testiment to the 250 grain BT projectile, not the 300grain. I will PM you this evening with more details if you like, for some stupid reason i have an abundance of information to help out with this lol, go figure...

Thanks again!

Re: Blaser Tac2 .338 Lapua Mag loads?

I also had a friend who had a Tac 2 in 338, and like Jig Stick's experience he could never get the thing to group well (1-2MOA consistently). He shoots other 338's fine and the scope was swapped out to check that it was not the problem. He was not shooting with a suppressor, just the muzzle brake. He tried Lapua and Black Hills factory ammo as well as a plethora of handloads using Lapua, Sierra, and Hornady bullets. He gave up and sold the rifle; hope yours shoots better as I know that among Blaser circles they have a reputation of being very accurate.

Interesting to hear these stories, these two are the first i have ever experianced. I intend on taking it out this sunday to sight in the new premier heritige 5-25x56 i have mounted ontop of it. I will be running 250Gr Factory Blackhill which i have had past success with. once i work out hwo to post these pictures i will post an update on how we went.

now im starting to get nervous..... :S! haha

Thanks for the input !

Re: Blaser Tac2 .338 Lapua Mag loads?

Like I said, they have a phenomenal reputation for accuracy so I assumed my friends rifle was just a lemon. Best luck, and let us know how it goes!

Re: Blaser Tac2 .338 Lapua Mag loads?

I'm tagging this thread to see if the OP has any updates. I was man-loving on a Tactical 2 yesterday. I was surprised at how light it was. I expected it to be a pig. However...it was in 308 so that shaved at least 1# off I think.

Re: Blaser Tac2 .338 Lapua Mag loads?

My suggestion is to look at the bore carefully using a good borescope to see whether you have carbon build up.

I had a 223Rem Blaser that initially shot well, then became inaccurate (~2 to 3MOA) after a few hundred rounds. I found there was a "carbon ring" built up nearer to the chamber than the muzzle. Using a couple of cleaners (e.g., foaming Wipe Out) and a nylon brush I was able to remove the carbon ring and restore accuracy.

Carbon is difficult to remove, so be patient and don't mar the bore. If you use a bronze brush, do so carefully. Wipe Out can be left in the bore overnight as can some other cleaners that may be relatively effective on carbon deposits.
