No, none of the 11 P226 Elite submodels cost $1200, you don't need to pay anywhere near MSRP. </div></div>

What is your basis for hating the XDm?

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

ALL of my springfield firearms run flawlessly. I run the XDM in shoots and a few matches and do real well with it. The new XDS is the cats ass. Stop hatin. NOT saying they are better than Sigs, but they damn sure aint junk either.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

this isn't a "ford vs chevy" thread. they are all F-ing junk by they way... especially the new diesel motors...

i like my XDm, but was just wondering if the sig is really worth twice as much, and why. it will be the scorpion threaded barrel model, by the way.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

I have a Sig's and XD's I prefer a Sig mostly due to fit and finish. I have not had problems from either one. When I go to buy new pistol's they are all Sig's.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

I have XDm's and my friends have Sig 226 Elite, both 9mm. Both are very reliable but the Sig has more parts and probably more mfg cost while the XDm is simplier like the Glock.

I really looked at the Sig and still do from time to time but I do not like the double action trigger (and decocker, etc) and never will. The pull of my XDm trigger is very much the same as my carbine trigger and I like that. Makes it easier for me to switch between weapons or use either correctly when awoke from a dead sleep but that's just me.

I've seen my friends put an unintended round on target because of the change in trigger pull. On target yes, but a risk to me, a double action trigger just adds to the complexity of the learning the weapon system.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

MDESIGN: i too, do not like the decocker on the sig. that is what stopped me from buying the sig when i got my XDm. the only decocker i ever liked was my beretta 92FS. but, on the other hand, i like the way the sig feels. i think it is very close to the 92FS as far as grip goes.

now, dumb question; can you fire the sig from a single action, hammer down? or is it DA only for the first pull, and SA there after?

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

I took an XD on a trade for an XP 100 and the XD has been an excellent side arm.. will shoot everything I feed it I do not believe it has ever jammed...Sigs are nice but not that nice!

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

I run a xd 9mm and it is a great firearm xtreme duty has not failed me yet and i use my stuff. I am pretty rough on them dont clean, carry every day . I have had a sig and i didnt like it but thats me ,also i think u should shot a firearm that you are happy with regaurdless of name or caliber ,and shot it often.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

Pretty sure you can cock it and go SA from the start. I also like the feel of the Sig which is why I look at it occasionally but then I remember the trigger and why I like what I have better.

My XDm gets used every day in combat training and executive protection. I have 1000's of rounds through it without issue. If I did not have 100% confidence in it, I would switch to another brand. I use it because I know it will go if I need it to.

I switched to the smallest grip insert that came with my XDm and it fits me just right. I added a little DIY stippling on selected areas of the grip for a little "extra" and really like the way it rides under recoil.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

The Sig's DA/SA is desired by some. It seems to be a very good design and that is what makes the gun more expensive. The Sigs w/o this action are a lot cheaper.

Croatian Junk? You cannot have shot an XDm. My XDm in 45 is the ugliest gun I have ever seen but it runs like a SOB. I choose it over each of my 1911s, including my race gun. I like my 1911's about 1000x more than the xdm, but I shoot the Springfield better (and I do like the 18 round 45 acp magazines). My buddy's XDm in 9mm is easily the fastest easiest shooting handgun I've handled (including the Sigs).

I'd like to know why some folks hate the XD line. Are there any REAL issues or is it just because they're so UGLY?

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

Concerning the Sig 226 vs. SA XDM, I would make my decision off of how it felt in my hand and how well I shot with it.

I could go buy a $3000 custom 1911 race gun, but if it didn't fit my hand well or I wasn't comfortable shooting with it, it might as well be worthless...

In regards to the XD, I have owned two (9mm & .45), and have put a lot of rounds through them and have yet to experience one single malfunction. I'll be the first to admit it's a blocky, ugly gun, but the dang thing fits my hand well, points naturally, hits where I aim, and always goes boom. For me, it's a tool, not a conversation piece, so I couldn't care less about aethetics or otherwise.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

Could always go the route of DAK trigger if you wanted same trigger weight/pull each time and you really like the feel of the Sig? the SRT trigger is nice, but does not alleviate the DA/SA feel.

As others have stated, get what fits your paws and your objective!!

Both are good guns. I think the XDm are better than the previous XD models in feel, function, ergonomics.(personally, your opinion may vary!)

Best of luck!

Sold my Sig, will never own another. Accuracy on XDm should be better than Sig, although I don't know about that high end model, it should be more accurate than the "stocker" I had. Sigs are bulky, and I didn't like the decocker either. Sig mags are about twice as much as XDm, and for a $1500 pistol, I'd rather have a Dan Wesson or Used Les Baer....

I'd also take a Beretta over a Sig, but you could also go HK in the $1000 range.....

by the way, these pistols will be a host for a YHM cobra can.

i really didn't like the HK's.

why do you say the XDM should be more accurate?

i would like to get one, but i am just trying to wrap my head around the cost and justify it as well. hell, the thing costs the same as my 5R! affording it isn't an issue, it's just the fact of the matter.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

The one time I held a Sig, I fell in love. The fit and finish are incredible. The 226 is high on my wish list (above the XDm).
I have nothing against XDms either, unfortunetly the communist state of CA does, and I can not legaly own one at this time. I am sure they prevented a lot of crimes by making that pistol unavailable, but I guess that's a topic for a different thread... Or forum altogether.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

the reason XDm's are cheaper is because they are made in Croatia. the frames are pumped out in injection molds VERY quickly.

SIG's are more expensive because (at least with the higher price ones) the frames are all either Aluminum or Stainless Steel. none of them are molded. some are forged, others are carved out of billets of metal. SIGs also have a reputation. they still sell with the higher prices!

i work at a gunshop, and i sold a few SIGs to the same guy 3-4 weeks ago. he bought a P226 MK25 9mm, a P226 Tactical Operations in 40 s&w, a 1911 Fastback 4 3/4" 45acp, and the SIG M400 AR-15. yeah, he dropped $4k plus all the extra stuff. i guess he got an inheritance and wanted to get those guns because he's wanted them for a REAL long time

There are cali compliant XD's and XDm's, low capacity, but again, they are cali legal.

$1500?! WTF Sig did you own? I have a 220combat that I bought used with 2 extra mags in pristine condition for $900. I love the gun! I had an XD45 that had the full treatment besides match barrel from Springer precision. While I really liked that gun I just cant get away from my Sig. I will own an XDM 3.8 in 9mm or the new single stack XD in 45 in the future though.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

I'm not really a pistol guy but shoot my buddies Sig all the time and you can definitely tell by holding both back to back that it costs a lot more to make than my xdm 5.25. I really like my XDm and the only complaint that I have is I hate the trigger. If you are considering the Springfield I think it's a great gun but I think you should consider if you are going to want to do a lot of modifications to it. There are a lot of really good companies that make some nice products for it but it is just a much easier route to start out with a Glock or M&P. I'm selling mine and getting one of those two.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

Croatian junk? Wow.
While not the best handguns in the world, they are by far not junk.
They make metal to metal contact in all the right places, they shoot damn accurate and being polymer is just a plus to me in some cases. The trigger definitely needs an upgrade but other than that, it's just not junk.
Sig makes damn good guns (I've only shot the P229) but some of their models cost twice of the XD's top priced models... there are trade offs everywhere when it comes to discussion time.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

I have owned a xd and still own a 226. The xdm is still a new pistol relative to the 226 its a proven platform.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

I don't think XD's are junk, but they cost way too much, my HS2000 cost 189.95, SA bought the rights to the pistol, renamed it XD, gave it a great marketing campaign and set a retail price of 499.95, street prices were less, I'm all for a company making money, but the prices of XD pistols is way too much for such cheap pistol.

More than likely he has never actually shot or held the gun, just making his assumption on some second, third, or even fourth hand opinion.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

Wow, 2 totally different guns here.

I've owned a xdm, just didn't feel right in my hands. They aren't junk, but they are ugly . Mine ran great and was very accurate... Just didn't do it for me. I like the M&P's better for a polymer pistol. I fell for the 19+1 lure originally, but that grip was just too long for anything other than a range gun.

Don't own a 226 yet, but the 229 is a great gun. I wouldn't expect the full size 226 to be any different. I have shot my friends quite a few times. They are heavy though and will give a much different feel. I think they shoot smooth as hell, probably because of their weight. Excellent suppressor host btw.

I'd go with a 226 if it was up against a xdm. I don't see the xdm as a "long term" fixture. And I'd shop for a better price.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

I have both (standard 226 though not elite). the XDm fits my hand better I'd more reliable and just feels smoother as it runs. The trigger isn't bad but I like hammer fired triggers better so I had to go with the 226 on that one. I'm pushing 6000 rounds on the XDm with 0 jams or stoppages. The 226 will jame every once in a while.

Holding the two together, I feel the fit and finish goes to the 226 and it is noticeably more expensive to produce (I'm a manufacturing engineer). Most people that shot the two back to back are more accurate with the XDm, however I tend to do better with the sig. Again, my preference for hammer fired guns.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

2 completely different designs. You are comparing apples to oranges and that just dont equate.

If it is not a matter of the cost, YOU shoot them both and then decide what is more comfortable and accurate in your hand.

If it is a matter of the cost, the answer is the XDM. Its is a flat solid pistol for the money and you can not go wrong owning one.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

Pistol decision is simple: what fits your hand? If a sig fits, buy it. If a XDm fits better, buy it. I have small hands so I could never shoot a sig, hence I don't own one.

Obviously you should never buy a gun with a bad rep, but the XDm does not have a bad rep with most people that have them. Buy a quality pistol that fits your hand. Shoot the piss out of it. You will then know if you like it.

If you shoot any kind of action pistol, you will be slower with the sig.

Not at all. XDs have had the worst record in my shop experience than all other brands other than Kel-Tec and Taurus.

Supposedly XDms are much improved over the old style, but I still have my doubts.

Here's the gist from another thread:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">XD/XDms are both grossly overpriced, and the XDs are absolute junk. I've personally had three (3) XDs with critical part failures. NONE of them were due to OOBs, all from casual misuse and stress. One had a frame crack inside of the top of the trigger guard, the other two had broken control parts. Granted the frame crack was from the gun and box getting knocked off a workbench, but Glocks & M&Ps don't break that easy. (And yes, I've checked to make sure)

At the shop, we sent back more XDs under warranty than any other gun except Kel-Tec and Taurus. Now I understand that the XDm is a vastly improved product, but the old style XD's are junk. Like someone else said before, simply a rebranded Croatian HS2000 indigenous cheap design.</div></div>

Besides, how many LE entities use Glocks and M&Ps? The far majority. Glock has the biggest share (they claim 40%+) and S&W claims something like 600 some entities (foreign and domestic) have switched to the M&P.

How many LE entities trust the XD? I'm aware of only 1.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

So the guns break because someone misuses them? Therefore they are all junk. Thats some fantastic logic.

I know where you come from though. I slammed my car door on a water bottle by accident, and put a crack in my door panel. Man, all Audis are cheap german crap!

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

Sig's are very nice...only you can determine if it's worth the money. As far as quality...they are among the very best.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

If the money isn't a problem go sig. I have two XDm's and an XD, I really like springfield, but I'll be looking to get a sig before long and replace my xdsc as my cc.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

Sigs replaced a stable of Glocks that I had except on G22 that stays around for "sentimental" reasons. I found they fit my hand better, I liked the weight and build better and I was able to shoot better because of that. Not saying that a Sig is the only pistol to buy but for me everytime I start thinking I want another pistol I start at Sig.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

like i said in my original post, i have the XDm already. but, as the days tick by, i keep getting closer to plunking down the $ for the sig.

thanks for all of the replys.

Re: XDm or sig 226 elite, 9mm

I vote for the XDm...
