Ive been looking at them both in aspects of makes and models and was wondering from owners which make, model, caliber performs better and for what price thx

Re: remington 700 or savage10

Performs "better" for what purposes? Need a lot more info...

Re: remington 700 or savage10

Sorry bout that long range shooting as far as consistent accuracy

Re: remington 700 or savage10

Accuracy is all up to the shooter. Both will shoot as good or better than 90% of all shooters. Read the forums and do the research. The gun is the cheapest part of the sport. Go to the ballistics section and get learned.

Re: remington 700 or savage10

Both guns will shoot, I've had versions of both but for my sons and my own match guns now we're using Savage just because they perform and we built both of them ourselves.

No real definite answer and you'll get likes and dislikes from both camps but in reality both guns can be real performers in the hands of decent shooters.

One might have a higher resale value and the other might get smirks at the local Tactical match but in the end both will work fine.

Re: remington 700 or savage10

Sorta new to the gun game sny help wud be appreciated.

Re: remington 700 or savage10

Out of the box the Savage LRP in 260 is a heck of a 1000 yard gun, for just a bit more money you can build your own Savage with all the custom components that they stick on high end customs and do it all yourself and shoot right with the big boys at the matches if shooter has equal skills.

Starting off, I'd not get caught up in buying a big name custom. I'm not up on out of the box Remingtons that compare to a Savage and there are other choices. All I can tell ya is at our 1000 yard matches Savage guns are the majority in the top 10 finishers so they must be working.

Good luck in your quest, lots of threads on here that already go into the many choices available. Using the search function will give you many hours of good information. If interested in specifics I can give you our build list on ours. Both are identical and shoot nearly identical with exact same loads and sight settings. PM me if interested so you can have some info to compare to.

Troll?? I've been here since '03. You've already been on this thread over an hour.....guess you had more time than you thought.

I'm all for giving the new guys here a break, but whats with all the new members coming on here and calling the regulars "trolls", as far as I'm concerned, okie was right, except it doesn't take 20 mins to search this up, in two minutes you could skim through several threads on this subject and have all the answers you need.

Now, to answer your question, the Savage would be a better choice imo, although if you plan on getting the rifle and buying a bunch of custom parts, the 700 might be a better choice, even the Savage has pretty good aftermarket support.

Re: remington 700 or savage10

Thx for info man he could have said what you just did thread closed and answerd but as a regular i suppose its easier to say go look for it than to simply answer the inquiry with a few minutes of your time thanks

Re: remington 700 or savage10

If you want to tinker with it and look for parts that suit you, get a Savage. If you want the base which all other are judged, get the 700. Everything is compatible with 700 and when it comes time to upgrade the rifle to a custom, more smiths are going to work over a 700 than a Savage.

Re: remington 700 or savage10

Listen, I was trying to keep it codial but if you're gonna insist on acting like a prick I can do that too, although I prefer not to. Now, one more time, the info I gave you was that you could get a lot more and better info in a fraction of the time by doing a search. You've been here long enough to know this same question has been asked tens if not hundreds of times. I was just trying to save you the time of beating a dead horse but if you insist, knock yourself out. IMO, you can be happy with either rifle. Get the one with the options most important to you and burn the barrel out of it.

Re: remington 700 or savage10

My suggestion is to go look at either of them and just pick whichever feels better to you. Neither gun is going to make you a good shooter if you're not, and either gun is going to shoot beyond your abilities if you're asking this question. Basically it's a moot point, pick one and have fun. Also, you'll get a lot farther if you show effort in your posts; instead of just throwing out a question and not paying any attention to your spelling/grammar or how common your question is, maybe do some searching. Basically, asking common questions is just asking people to do your work for you. If a google search or SH search can't answer your question satisfactorily then it warrants a post. SH members are big on respect, so I'd recommend showing some to anyone who takes the time to answer your post.

Re: remington 700 or savage10

Get the Remington 700. Is it better out of the box than the Savage? Probably not. However, there is a reason that when you look at national level shooting matches like the 2012 NorCal TBRC 76 out of 77 rifles are either Remingtons or Remington clones.

The Remington 700 short action is to the gun world what the Chevy small block 350 is to the car world. Everyone makes TONS of parts for them, and all smiths not only know how to work on them but doubtless have 2000% more experience working on them than any other brand.

Buy a Remington 700 SPS tactical in 308. Shoot a lot, upgrade stock, trigger, base, rings, scope, and finally barrel one at a time as your ability and cash increases. Ultimately if you choose parts wisely, you will end up with a full custom rifle, and never have wasted a dollar.

If you choose Savage, and rise in this sport. Eventually you will end up selling it at a lower price, and buying a Remington, or Remington clone. You simply can't compete with all of the choices and competition of brands that support the 700.

To the Savage lovers, sorry.....it's unfair, but the way it is.

custom search
A quick look back through the thread pages will show loads on this subject or use the link above to a better custom search.personally I prefer remys but its down to individual taste. You might want to grow a thicker skin if your going to hang around here too.Calling someone a troll because the advised you to do a quick search which would in-fact give you more info on a topic that is beaten to death will not get you far here

Re: remington 700 or savage10

Look 7 threads down dude.. same question asked 1 day before you. Do some due diligence bro.

Re: remington 700 or savage10

As far as performing better, that's a loaded question. My .308 Savage 10FCP shot half moa out of the box with Federal MK's. Hand loading with berger vld's and some range time and its a 3/8 gun when I do my part and has done 1/4 5-shot groups when the stars aligned.

I'm a savage guy. I grew up with Savage, I'll die with Savage. Are they better than Remington? I like the factory trigger better than Remington, but otherwise, they're both outstanding rifles.

Find a rifle you like, buy it, shoot it, be happy

Re: remington 700 or savage10

Buy the Rem and work on it to get it to shoot with the Savage. Save some money and get the Savage.

BTW, I just sold my Rem 700. Keeping my Savage though.

if you want it to shoot very well right out of the box its Savage hands down
if you want to have a smith buid a custom for you get a Remmy
they know how to work on them
there both good choices - but Ive had much better luck with the Savages
for out of the box accuracy -

Re: remington 700 or savage10

I'll be nice here. If this is really your first long range precision rifle I suggest starting with a gun chambered in. 308/7.62 . It with be cheaper and easier to get match ammunition if you dont handload. Dont get a gun just because it tacticool or you saw it in COD, get one that fits you and your needs and budget best. I will make a suggestion, the Remington 700 AAC-SD is a fairly accurate gun out of the box and if you shop around you can have it for around the low $600. Also next time be more specific when you ask a question, grow thicker skin other wise you wont make it far here, and use the google search first before you ask a question.

Re: remington 700 or savage10

HAHA.... You guys are wound way too tight... I haven't posted much either and the search always reveals everything except exactly what I'm looking for.

Anyway, I like a remington 700. A great starter rifle is the 5R in either 308 or 300 WM. You should be able to find an used one for 900 - 1100 and you will have something to build on. Should do .75 MOA or better out of the box but with a few tweaks can get to .5 MOA.

Re: remington 700 or savage10

yeah I think ill go with a 700 ill just have to do a little more research on the caliber I want but I would say .338 would be over kill as I dont really have access to distances over 600 yards in this mountainous region.

Re: remington 700 or savage10

If your talking 600 yards I would suggest a 308 or equal cartridge even 300 win mag is a little large for that. What's your price range?
